Scunthorpe United v Millwall Betting Preview

In our Scunthorpe United v Millwall betting preview we look at the best possible betting tips between the two sides.

On Sunday evening, we see Graham Alexander’s Scunthorpe United hosting Neil Harris’ Millwall at Glanford Park in the second leg of the League One play-off semi-final. The first leg was on Thursday evening when the Iron made the journey down to The Den. The Lions needed to make the most of their home leg, and after beating Scunthorpe 3-1 in this exact fixture in the league, it was expected to happen. That wasn’t the case though. Jed Wallace’s deadly set-pieces were a constant threat for the visiting back line but they dealt with them impressively. The best chance of the match fell to the person you’d want it to, Lions top scorer Lee Gregory. He looked destined to break the deadlock when he was sent through one on one with the keeper but he hit his shot straight at the onrushing Joe Anyon in the Scunthorpe goal. The visitors took until the 80th to register their first effort on target. Josh Morris’ long-range free-kick was easily dealt with by Jordan Archer. It ended goalless, with the visitors by far the happier of the two with that result. That didn’t stop a section of the home supporters doing a very questionable pitch invasion though.

Not the greatest attempt at a pitch invasion

It’s theirs to lose now

The home side Scunthorpe United head into the visit of Millwall with one foot already at Wembley Stadium for the play-off final. What was vital for them, is that they were still in the tie come the second leg. They are more than just in the tie, they are clear favourites now to progress through, Only the runaway champions Sheffield United have a better home record than the Iron. Glanford Park has been a fortress for them this season, and is one of the main reasons they managed to finish in third place. They’ve won their last five home matches on the bounce so will be very confident of a win here.

When they met at Glanford Park back in December, they extended their at the time unbeaten home record to 23 games when they brushed the Lions aside. They ran away with an extremely comfortable 3-0 victory, a standard of performance they will be hoping to match here. Paddy Madden was the star of the show with his brace, while Hakeeb Adelakun also got himself on the scoresheet. Their top scorer Josh Morris is going through a bit of a goal drought at the minute, he’s not found the net for 11 and we think it’s all set up for him to send his side to Wembley with a trademark goal here.

This man is overdue a goal

It’s a tough ask, but its very doable

The away side Millwall go into the trip to Scunthorpe United knowing they face an uphill battle if they are to qualify for the play-off final for the second year in a row. They will be extremely disappointed that they didn’t make their home leg tie, especially after being the better tie. The one positive is that it’s still level, they aren’t going to Glanford Park having to come from behind. The Lions know the feeling of losing in the play-offs all too well, just last season they were 90 minutes away from being promoted to the Championship but were beaten by Barnsley at Wembley. With just two wins in their last nine away fixtures, they are going to have to pull something special out the bag here. But if the players can’t get themselves up for a game like this, then something is going wrong.

Their most recent away match was on the final day of the season when they confirmed their play-off place away at Bristol Rovers. Shaun Hutchinson scored a header from a corner with just five minutes left on the clock to make it 4-3. So they’ll be hoping to take that momentum and feeling into this here. The older players such as Steve Morison should be using his vast experience to get the younger lads ready for what could be their biggest game of their career.

Morison’s experience could help them pull through
