Sheffield Wednesday v Brentford Betting Tips and Odds

In our Sheffield Wednesday v Brentford betting preview we look at the best possible bets between the two sides.

Overview

Both teams have had indifferent starts to the Championship this year, Brentford being at the wrong end of the table though. The Owl’s start has been up and down, they have drawn far too many games but a 3-1 demolition of Forest on Saturday should see them gain confidence and really push on. Fletcher and Hooper both bagged on Saturday and that will be a real plus for Wednesday manager Carlos Carvalhal after a slow start from the former Premier League men. Brentfords awful start has been much to the surprise to myself after watching them last season and couldn’t believe how excellent they were on the ball. Their past two results have shown improvement, drawing 0-0 with Aston Villa and Wolves. This is one of the worst starts Brentford have ever had only picking up 3 points from their first 6 games this season.

Sheffield Wednesday Promotion push

Sheffield Wednesday have been the nearly men in the last few years and losing to Huddersfield on penalties last year must of been extremely hard especially after seeing how well they are doing now in the top division. Their squad is filled with quality and their firepower upfront has got to be the best in the division by far. Unfortunately none of them are performing to the best of their ability at the moment, goals from Fletcher and Hooper at the weekend will give them confidence though. Its not been the worst start by Wednesday as they are still close to the play offs but with their bitter rivals above them and flying high in the league I’m sure they will want to change that as soon as possible.

Wednesday aren’t without injury problems tonight going into the match against Brentford, influential players from the weekend Jack Hunt and Kieran Lee are a major doubt for the clash tonight, as well as Steven Fletcher who scored on Saturday. With Brentfords poor start to the campaign you have to look at Wednesday as clear favourites especially with the depth of their squad. Tonight could give the chance for new signing Jacob Butterfield and Jordan Rhodes to really stake a place in the Wednesday starting 11, Rhodes has bagged a brace in the EFL cup but has failed to score in the league so far. The consistent bagsmen has failed to find that magical form that he had for Blackburn Rovers over recent seasons, lets hope he can find it again tonight.

Brentfords Relegation scrap

Brentford have had an awful start to the season, picking 2 of their 3 points up in the last two games with draws against decent sides. Sloppy defending has seen Brentford have a -4 goal difference so far this season and see’s them in the relegation zone second from bottom, only being propped up by the lac lustre Bolton Wanderers. Brentford have won a few times this season but only in the EFL cup, they were convincing wins though and hopefully they can produce this kind of form in the league. Having lost two of their most influential players at the end of the transfer window to Birmingham City it could be an even more uphill task for the Bee’s to get their season back on track and get out of the relegation zone.

A most improved performance against Villa, where only Sam Johnston Villa’s keeper kept the Bee’s at bay and gained Villa a well earned point. Dean Smith Brentfords gaffer was pleased with the performance but thought they should of got their first win of the season against Steve Bruce’s underperforming side. Brentfords season really needs to start from tonight against the Owl’s, it will be a tough task being away from home but with their improvements on the performance side they could well grab a point. Brentford haven’t scored in the last 3 League games and this could well be a problem for the Bee’s against Wednesday tonight, their top scorer Neal Maupay only has two goals this term and the whole squad has only scored 5 altogether.

Odds

This is a huge game for both teams, it could really push Wednesday into the play offs and put them onto a decent run. They need their big names to start firing and this could be the perfect match for them to find some form. Brentford have had a better run of late but they need to get that elusive first win under their belt, its going to be a tough ask away at Hillsborough but in the Championship, anyone can beat anyone. Sheffield Wednesday are 11/10 to win with Betvictor, Brentford are 11/4 to win with Betfair, and the draw is 11/4 with Betfair.
