Tottenham v West Brom Betting Preview – 14/01/17

Tottenham v West Brom Betting Preview

In our Tottenham v West Brom betting preview we look at the best possible bets between the two sides.

Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham Hotspur welcome West Brom to White Hart Lane to looking to pick up their sixth consecutive league win. The hosts have been in fine form in recent weeks, finally breaking into the top four at the expense of North London rivals Arsenal. In their last Premier League outing they defeated leaders Chelsea and it’s vital they back it up here. West Brom make the trip to the capital in eighth and Tony Pulis will be pleased with the progress his side are making. They’ve won their last two in the league and will be a tricky opponent here.

Tottenham enter match day 21 up in third position and it’s been a great season to date for Mauricio Pochettino’s men. They’ve been challenging for a spot in the top four for the majority of the campaign and following a successful festive period, they’ve made finally made it in there. The end of 2016 & the start of 2017 have seen Spurs go from strength to strength, setting their best winning run of the season which currently stands at five games and they’re playing some great football. The highlight of the season so far undoubtedly came in their first home game of 2017 when leaders Chelsea made the short trip to North London.

Tottenham produced one of their best performances of the season to keep the leaders at bay and roll out 2-0 winners. Dele Alli grabbed the headlines after scoring a brace but it was a real team effort from Spurs which will give them confidence coming into a big period of the season. They’re now one of just two teams defending an unbeaten home run in the top flight and they’ll take some beating, especially with how their big players are performing at the moment. The likes of Christian Eriksen, Toby Alderweireld and Harry Kane – among several others – have been superb in recent weeks and if they perform to that standard here there’ll only be one winner.

West Brom’s season has also seen them make some solid progress and their supporters will be delighted with their position coming into the new year. The Baggies make the trip to North London up in eighth and they’re a very stubborn, difficult opponent to face. They’ve always been built on strong defensive foundations under Pulis but they’re now scoring the goals to go alongside their resolute performances. The likes of Salomon Rondon, Matty Phillips & former Tottenham man Nacer Chadli pack a real punch in attack and they’ll test this Spurs backline.

West Brom’s recent Premier League form has been solid, their supporters have seen them win their last two – scoring five goals in the process. And despite facing one of the Premier League’s most formiddable home sides, they’ll be quietly confident they can get a result. They’ve already travelled to three of the top five this season and despite losing all three, they were never disgraced. They were beaten by just one goal in each of those encounters and Pulis will have his side set up to frustrate the hosts here. West Brom had a break from league action last weekend and they suffered a slight set back – exiting the FA Cup at the hands of Championship Derby (2-1).

On paper there’s only one winner in this clash with Spurs’ recent form and home record. But West Brom have proven over the course of the season that they’re dogged opposition and they’ll make things tough for Spurs. However, the hosts have some fantastic attackers who’re more than capable of unlocking any defence – with one man in particular shining in recent weeks. Dele Alli has hit seven goals in his last five appearances and we can see him being the difference maker again here – priced at 6/4 to score anytime. As for a winner, we’re backing Spurs to extend their impressive home record and break into the top two.
