West Ham v Chelsea Betting Tips & Odds

In our West Ham v Chelsea betting preview we look at what could possibly be the best bets between the two sides.

3rd place Chelsea make the short journey across London to take on West Ham in this exciting Premier League encounter. The visitors find themselves in a promising position heading into this fixture, they’re currently unbeaten in their last 6 league games and are fresh from winning their Champions League group midweek, so head into this clash brimming with confidence. The same can’t be said for the hosts however, they’ve endured a terrible first half to their season and are now languishing in the bottom 3 after 15 matches.

Chelsea maintaining pace on United

Chelsea are currently enjoying a rich vein of form, they’ve picked up an impressive 18 points from a potential 21 in their last 6 Premier League games and are now just 3 points behind 2nd place Manchester United heading into the festive period. Another victory for Antonio Conte’s men in this encounter would see them draw level on points with United, should the Red Devils fail to get anything out of the eagerly anticipated Manchester derby on Sunday afternoon. The recent form of Eden Hazard is most definitely giving Chelsea fans something to smile about, the Belgian creative midfielder has been on fire in recent weeks and put in another man of the match performance against Newcastle last weekend, scoring two goals in a 3-1 victory at Stamford Bridge. Hazard links up so well with front man Alvaro Morata so well in that final third, he’ll be such a threat to the Hammers here if he continues to play with the same confidence as he has been lately, backing the 26 year old to score first for the visitors in this clash could be a very decent bet here!

Last time out, Chelsea went up against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League. That game on Tuesday night was of no real importance to Chelsea as they had already qualified for the knockout stages, but it still meant they had to put in a solid performance against a well drilled Madrid outfit. After dominating possession in the first half, Atletico went a goal up 10 minutes after the interval through midfielder Saul Niguez. The match looked to be heading for a defeat for Chelsea, until a Stefan Savic own goal rescued a point for the West Londoners 15 minutes from time, meaning the visitors head into this match now unbeaten in 7 games in all competitions, a statistic that will undoubtedly give them a massive boost.

Chelsea are unbeaten in their last 7.

Hammers unlucky against City

West Ham go into this match on the back of an extremely resilient performance against league leaders Manchester City last Sunday. After taking the lead through Angelo Ogbonna on the stroke of half time, the Hammers put in an organised second half display, defending well against the Premier League pace setters, but were pegged back by a goal from defender Nicolas Otamendi just before the hour mark. City dominated possession throughout the whole of that contest, but really turned up the pressure in the final 10 minutes, consistently peppering the West Ham box to no avail. The deadlock was finally broken just 7 minutes from time however, when David Silva found the net with an extremely cute finish from Kevin de Bruyne’s perfectly weighted cross, 2-1 City.

Although they lost that game at the Etihad, West Ham’s performance on Sunday showed massive signs of improvement. The Londoners defended well for large parts of that match against a City side who have been tearing sides apart for fun all season, so can take many positives into this game with Chelsea. David Moyes will be well aware that it’s going to be an incredibly tough task to get anything out of this clash however, he’s expected to line up very defensive minded in the hope that his side can keep out the frightening attacking threat Chelsea possess, instead opting to try and catch the visitors on the break through the likes of Manuel Lanzini and Michail Antonio. We can see them getting a goal in this encounter, but feel as though Chelsea will just be too strong overall, with that in mind, backing the visitors to win and BTTS could be a good bet in this one.
