Wigan v Fleetwood Betting Tips & Odds

In our Wigan v Fleetwood betting preview we look at what could possibly be the best bets between the two sides.

Overview

Table toppers Wigan welcome 11th placed Fleetwood to the DW Stadium this weekend, looking to make it 3 wins in 3 in SkyBet League One. The hosts have had a tremendous opening half to their season, and now lead the way having won 13 games out of 19. The visitors have also got their sights firmly set on promotion this season, they currently lie 11th in the table, but are only 8 points outside the top 6, so could find themselves firmly back in contention for the play off’s with a few positive result in their forthcoming games.

Latics looking good value for the title

The hosts have come out on top in their last two league games against Rotherham and Doncaster, so take a good deal of momentum into this fixture. Paul Cook’s men will be brimming with confidence having conceded just one goal in those two games, whilst scoring six in return, and will be looking to use that confidence to clinch another win here against a Fleetwood side who have hit a bit of a rough patch in recent weeks. Wigan have been outstanding on home soil this term, they’ve only lost 1 game in 10 at the DW Stadium, so will be hoping to continue with that form here against the Seasiders.

The hosts have scored more goals than any other side in League One this season, Paul Cook’s men have bagged 36 goals in 19 matches since the campaign kicked off back in early August, so it’s clear to see why they now lead the way at this stage of the season. Another win for Wigan would see them maintain a bit of a gap between themselves and second place Shrewsbury; the Shropshire outfit are only 2 points behind the Latics going into the weekend, and could leapfrog them with a victory over MK Dons in their fixture this weekend should Wigan fail to beat Fleetwood here, so it really is all to play for at the top of League One this weekend.

Fleetwood with just 1 win in 9

The visitors are certainly the underdogs here considering their recent form, they’ve only won one in their last nine and have now slipped out of the play off’s to 11th place heading into the festive period. They desperately need a win here to start building up some momentum ahead of their forthcoming games against Peterborough and Gillingham, and could be in real trouble if they don’t start turning it around anytime soon. Fleetwood have been a very uninspiring side to watch in recent outings, two 0-0 draws sandwiched a 4-2 defeat to Walsall in their last 3 games, results that have made fans start to question whether or not manager Uwe Rösler is the right man to take them forward or not.

The main issue for the travellers at this moment in time has been their inability to find the back of the net. With just two goals scored in their last four games, it’s simply not good enough. If the Codmen are to mount a serious challenge for a play off spot come the end of the season then this needs to improve, sharpish. This game is going to be a huge test of character for Fleetwood, Wigan are arguably the strongest team in the whole division this time out, they’ve conceded the least goals out of any team in the league this season, and with the visitors seemingly incapable of finding the net at the moment, it could prove to be a long afternoon for the away side.
