Wigan v Scunthorpe Betting Tips & Odds – 10/03/18

In our Wigan v Scunthorpe betting preview we look at the best possible bets between the two sides.

Paul Cook’s Wigan welcome Scunthorpe to the DW stadium Saturday. Both teams will be hoping for promotion come the end of the season. Wigan will be trying to not get stuck in League One and go straight back up after relegation from the Championship last year. With three games in hand onBlackburn, who are top of the table, their should be no doubt of Wigan’s return to the Championship. Scunthorpe finished third last season and will be looking to go one better this time around. Having failed to win in their last five games they will need to improve their results to stay in the top six.

Wigan have kept seven clean sheets in their last eight home games

Wigan are favourites to win the League One title this season, after some great performances. The Latics currently lie in third position, six points behind League leaders Blackburn Rovers with four games in hand. Wigan’s impressive League form has filtered into the FA Cup which saw them beat Premier League leaders Manchester City 1-0. The FA Cup run has caused a bit of a drop in performances either side of League games, but Paul Cook’s men still look set to go on and win the title. Wigan boast the best defence in the League, having only conceded a total of twenty goals all season, and is what Paul Cook has built his title challenge off. With seven clean sheets in their last eight home matches the Wigan fans will expect another win at the DW stadium Saturday.

The Latics have arguably the best options in League One going forward. With fan favourite Will Grigg and Nick Powell in the squad they haven’t struggled for goals. Paul Cook has managed to further strengthen his forward line in January signing last seasons League One top-scorer James Vaughan from Sunderland and Devante Cole, son of former England Striker Andy Cole, from Fleetwood. With the team still in the FA Cup, starting places will be hard fought after as everyone makes a claim to play. Wigan still have four games in hand over most of the League another win against Scunthorpe will keep the pressure on the rest of the teams challenging for the title.

Scunthorpe looking to end a run of five without a win

Scunthorpe have finished in or around the playoffs in the last two seasons. After being top of the table for a large period of the last 16/17 they ended up finishing third, missing out on automatic promotion. At the beginning of the season Scunthorpe fans would of been hoping to go one better this time around. With Blackburn, Shrewsbury and Wigan look set to battle it out for the top two positions it seems Scunthorpe will have another attempt at promotion via the playoffs. However, with a number of teams below them in the League with games in hand Scunthorpe with have to fight for the right to finish in the playoffs come the end of the season.

The Irons come into this game on a poor run of form, having failed to win in their last five League games. Josh Morris was the main man for Scunthorpe last season scoring nineteen goals in the League, he hasn’t quite hit the same heights this season only managing ten goals to date but still remains a big part of the Scunthorpe goal threat. The Iron’s fans will need a big performance from Morris and the rest of the team if they expect to get anything out of a very strong Wigan side. With another tough game against Shrewsbury next week, Scunthorpe will need to start improving their results to finish inside the top six come the end of the season.
