Wolves v Reading Betting Tips & Odds

In our Wolves v Reading betting preview we look at what could possibly be the best bets between the two sides.

Table toppers Wolves host Reading tonight in the Championship. The hosts head into the game with their confidence dented after being thrashed by West Midland rivals Aston Villa 4-1 on Saturday, while the visitors were held at home to Leeds in a 2-2 draw. The hosts will still be the favourites here, but desperately need to bounce back from that thrashing at the weekend. The visitors are in dire need of a win as they sit 19th in the table after 36 games, they’re just six points above the relegation zone so could quite easily be dragged into danger should they continue with their recent poor performances.

Wolves go into this game on the back of a 4-1 loss to Aston Villa.

Wolves losing grip

Wolves have occupied top spot for the majority of the campaign but have recently seen their gap at the top slashed to just 3 points after a run of underwhelming results. Nuno Espirito Santo’s men have won just one of their previous five league games and last weekend were embarrassed by Aston Villa in a 4-1 drubbing at Villa Park. After going a goal down inside 8 minutes in that clash, Wolves hit back just 12 minutes later through a scrappy goal from Diogo Jota. Both sides then went into the break with a goal to show for their efforts but the second-half was a much more one sided affair. James Chester, Lewis Grabban and Birkir Bjarnason all got themselves on the scoresheet to secure a resounding victory for the Villains. That result now means this game against Reading is vital for Wolves’ chances of winning the title; should they lose, Cardiff could draw level on points with them with a win over Brentford this evening.

Portuguese front man Diogo Jota will be the hosts main threat going forward in this tie. The 21-year-old has bagged 14 goals in all competitions this term and was the only player on the scoresheet for Wolves against Villa so will carry some good momentum into this fixture. Jota is priced at odds of 4/1 to open the scoring tonight and we think that could be a profitable selection in this showdown at Molineux.

Danny Batth Wolves

The hosts will still remain favourites considering the form they’ve displayed throughout the whole season.

Royals struggling at the bottom

After a fantastic campaign last time out where Reading reached the play-off final, they have endured a completely different season this time out. Currently 19th in the table, Jaap Stam’s men have been extremely poor throughout the season, winning just eight of their 36 games. These results have left Reading languishing just six points above the bottom three and in real danger of the drop should performances not improve. A win here looks highly unlikely considering the visitors have only won one of their previous seven games away from home, but with Wolves losing in the manner in which they did at the weekend, the Royals will feel much more optimistic of causing an upset here than they would have a couple of weeks ago.

Four of both of these teams last six fixtures have ended in over 2.5 goals which suggests we could be in for a fairly high scoring affair this evening. That selection is priced at odds of 10/11 with Betfred and we feel as though that could be a decent bet here. Considering all six of Reading’s previous games have ended with both teams scoring, and Wolves being the second-highest scoring team in the whole division with 63 goals, a both teams to score bet here could be another good selection tonight – that’s best priced at 8/11 with BetVictor.

Jap Staam Reading
