Sutton United vs Accrington Stanley Preview, Tips & Stats

The Borough Sports Ground hosts Sutton United and Accrington Stanley this Saturday in League Two. Both sides sit in the bottom half of the table, with Sutton more desperate for the three points to take themselves off the bottom of the table.

Sutton currently sit rock bottom of the League Two table after 39 games. The Us have six wins, 12 draws and 21 losses, leaving them on 30 points, three points from the rest of the relegation zone and nine points from safety.

In their last five games in all competitions, Sutton have two wins, one draw and two losses.

Ryan Jackson opened the scoring for Sutton in the sixth minute but a penalty from Macaulay Langstaff equalised for Notts County just seven minutes later. Harry Smith regained the lead for Sutton but Daniel Crowley’s first goal made it level before halftime. Olly Sanderson gave the lead back to Sutton again but Crowley’s second goal made it level with 20 minutes to go. However, a late penalty from Charlie Lakin grabbed a 4 - 3 win for Sutton. The next time out, Sutton travelled to Tranmere, where a late goal from Rob Apter was the only goal of the game in the 1 - 0 win for Tranmere.

Justin Obikwu gave Grimsby the 1 - 0 lead at halftime with his late first half goal. However, another penalty from Lakin gave Sutton a 1 - 1 draw despite Sutton having just one shot on target. Elliott Nevitt scored the only goal of the game in the 71st minute to give Crewe Alexandra the 1 - 0 win over Sutton.

The last time out for Sutton was against Forest Green Rovers. Josh Coley scored in the first half in the 1 - 0 win for Sutton in a big game at the bottom of the table.

Accrington Stanley, on the other hand, sit a bit further up in 16th in League Two. In 38 games, Accrington have 14 wins, eight draws and 16 losses which leaves them on 50 points, just four points from the top half of the table.

In their last five games in all competitions, Accrington have one win, one draw and three losses.

A penalty from Jack Nolan gave Accrington the lead early in the second half, but goals from David Okagbue and Emmanuel Adeboyega gave Walsall the 2 - 1 comeback win. The trip to Wrexham was one to forget for Accrington. A first half hat-trick from Paul Mullin and a goal from Elliot Lee gave Wrexham the 4 - 0 win, with Accrington finishing the game with ten men with the late red card to Lewis Shipley.

All three of Bradford’s goals came in the first half as a brace from Tyreik Wright and a goal from Andy Cook gave Bradford the 3 - 0 win, with Accrington having just three shots on target. Accrington went behind early in the second half as Aaron Drinan scored for Swindon Town. However, another penalty from Nolan and a late goal from Alex Henderson gave Accrington the 2 - 1 win.

The most recent outing for Accrington was against Notts County. Jim O’Brien opened the scoring for Notts County in the fourth minute but Shaun Whalley equalised before the 20 minute mark. Alassana Jatta regained the lead for Notts County on the stroke of halftime but a late penalty from Nolan gave Accrington the 2 - 2 draw.

Sutton and Accrington Stanley have met just once in their histories, that meeting coming earlier in the season in September. Accrington took home a big 4 - 1 win, with Tommy Leigh, Rosaire Longelo and Joe Pritchard all on the scoresheet for Accrington.
