A clash of titans is on the cards on Wednesday night at TD Garden as the Boston Celtics host the OKC Thunder. The defending champions are aiming to win a 6th game in a row, but they’re also hoping to avenge a nasty 105-92 loss from earlier in the season against the Thunder. The 92 points and just 9 threes scored left a bitter taste in the mouths of Celtics fans, but with the way the team has been playing lately there’s a good chance they’ll make amends for that result. Nobody in the NBA defends the three-ball as good as OKC, with their opponents connecting on just 33.7% of shots this season. However, Boston is the highest scoring three-point team in the league, connecting on a staggering 18.2 threes a night in home games. Losing a 20 point per game scorer like Jalen Williams ahead of this game is a big blow to the Thunder ambitions and while I’m sure Shai Gilgeous-Alexander will get this numbers, I feel like the Celtics are just too good at the moment. Back the home team to cover.
A fairly modest point total has been set here, so why not take advantage of that? The Clippers are coming off a 127-120 loss vs the Pelicans last night, which means they’ll be playing on a 2nd night of a back-to-back, so there could be some tired legs on defense out there. The over has now cashed in 4 of the last 5 LA games, during this stretch the Clippers have ranked only 20th in defensive efficiency. Meanwhile, backing the over in Miami Heat home games has yielded profit in 18 of 30 games this season. Miami has lost 4 games in a row, mainly due to their lack of ability to execute on offense. Thankfully though, all that changes tonight as they face a very inconsistent Clippers defense which is allowing 116.9 points per 100 possessions over their last 5 games. If we look at head-to-head meetings, we can notice the over cashing 6 times in 10 meetings and the two teams averaging a combined 221.7 points per game during that stretch. With the over cashing in 5 of 7 games vs Pacific Division opponents for Miami, I feel like backing the over is a really solid bet here.
Following back-to-back losses to the two LA teams, the Knicks finally got their first win of this West coast road trip as they took down the Kings 133-104 on Monday. They should have a slightly easier job on Wednesday night in Portland, facing a Blazers team that’s lost 4 games in a row with their defense looking very poor during this stretch. In 3 of those losses the Blazers allowed at least 119 points, against a high scoring Knicks team they could run into trouble on that end in tonight’s game. New York has finally adapted to life without Jalen Brunson as the guard is set to miss a couple of weeks with his ankle injury. Karl-Anthony Towns has stepped up in the last 2 games, as time goes on his role will increase on offense to fill the void left behind in Brunson’s absence. The Knicks are an encouraging 8-4 ATS in the last 12 meetings and they’ve also won 4 of the last 5 games against the Blazers overall. With Portland winning just once in their last 6 games overall, you have to go with the Knicks in this one.

Going on a 5-game win streak couldn’t come at a better time for the Timberwolves who have gotten to within half a game of the 6th seeded Warriors. Only one team in the league has had a better offensive rating over the last 5 games than the T’Wolves, they’ve also won their games by an average of 13.4 points. However, all that goes out the window as they make their way to Ball Arena to face the Nuggets and Nikola Jokic. The Joker once again had a night to remember with 35 points, 18 rebounds and 8 assists as the Nuggets got the split in the baseball series vs OKC. Adding additional interest to this match-up is the fact that Minnesota is up 2-0 in the regular season series, but I would argue these Nuggets are a completely different team compared to those two that lost those game in November and January. They’ve won 10 of 11 at home, 8 of 10 vs West teams and 14 of 18 games overall. If they can contain Ant Man here, I’m liking their chances. Back Denver.
