In Friday night’s Bundesliga action, eighth-place Borussia Mönchengladbach hosts fourth-place Mainz at Borussia Park in what should be an entertaining contest.

Location: Borussia Park

When these two sides last met back on 25th October, the match resulted in a 1-1 draw as Tim Kleindienst equalised for Gladbach in the 57th-minute, having fallen behind to a Stefan Lainer own goal just two minutes prior.
Gladbach are solely focussing on the Bundesliga, as they were knocked out of the DFB Pokal by Eintracht Frankfurt back in late October.
Gerardo Seoane looks to be leading his side to a much improved Bundesliga finish this campaign, as last season, they finished 14th with 34 points from 34 matches, a points tally which they have already surpassed with 10 matches to spare this time around.
A player that has aided Gladbach’s resurgence is former Heidenheim forward Tim Kleindienst, as he has scored 14 league goals following his summer transfer, seeing him only sit behind Omar Marmoush, Patrik Schick and Harry Kane in the goalscoring charts.
On the other hand, Mainz are in a shock race to qualify for the UEFA Champions League as they are on 41 points from 24 matches, a mere six points improvement points-wise to last season’s 13th-place finish.
The visitors actually had a slow start to the season, as they won just two of their opening nine matches, while since then, they have gone on an impressive run of form that has seen them win ten of their last 15 league matches, meaning that manager Bo Henriksen has an impressive win percentage of 49% since joining the club in February last season when the club were in the midst of a relegation battle.
Like Gladbach, Mainz were also beaten in the Second Round of the DFB Pokal, as they were thrashed 4-0 at home by Bayern Munich.
Jonathan Burkardt’s impressive goalscoring form has been a catalyst for Mainz’s impressive uprising this campaign, as the 24-year-old has fired in 14 goals in just 20 Bundesliga appearances, averaging a goal every 98 minutes.
