Barcelona vs Dortmund Prediction

Barcelona’s unprecedented record in all competitions places them as heavily strong favourites for the first-leg against a Borussia Dortmund side that have already been beaten by Hansi Flick’s side this season. The home side are unbeaten in their previous 22 matches across all competitions, and the hosts ended their UEFA Champions League group phase unbeaten at home.

Borussia Dortmund are without a clean sheet in their last six matches, which will not bode well against a side who have scored first in seven of their last eight games in all competitions. The visitors also have an unwanted record of no wins in their previous three matches against Barcelona.

Robert Lewandowski will be the focus of attention in this game, as once again, the Polish international will face his former employers. Since departing Borussia Dortmund, Lewandowki has had a tremendous record against his old club, with 27 goals in 27 appearances. Lewandowski has been in excellent form this season, scoring 25 league goals and nine goals in the UEFA Champions League, so we are tipping him to score anytime.

As for the game, we are going for a 3-1 victory for Barcelona.

Barcelona 3-1 Borussia Dortmund

Barcelona vs Dortmund Preview & Preview

One of the favourites for the competition, FC Barcelona, takes on Borussia Dortmund in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-final, as Hansi Flick could be set to make history this season.

Date: 09/04/2025
Location: Olimpic Lluis Companys, Barcelona.
Kick-off: 8pm

Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has enjoyed a successful season thus far in charge of the Spanish hosts. The former Bayern Munich manager could be on course to record a notable piece of history as one of the few managers to record an historic treble with two separate clubs.

Barcelona is at the top of their respective league division, four points ahead of their fiercest rivals, Real Madrid. Hansi Flick’s side have been ruthless in the attacking department, scoring 83 goals in 30 league games and only conceding 29 goals in the meantime. Barcelona finished second in the UEFA Champions League Group phase, only finishing two points behind Liverpool and only losing once to AS Monaco (2-1) in which Barcelona were reduced to ten men following a dismissal to Eric Garcia.

Borussia Dortmund have had a turbulent season on and off the pitch with managerial changes, necessary to fix their early league form. During the early stages of the season, the visitors for this game were loitering around 14th place in the Bundesliga, which prompted the Borussia Dortmund board to enable a change in management and replace Nuri Sahin with former Bayern Munich manager Niko Kovac.

Since he arrived at the club, Kovac has brought the German club to within reach of the UEFA Champions League places, with Borussia Dortmund in eighth place after 28 league games played. Dortmund are now five points adrift of fourth-placed Mainz 05, following impressive victories over the former (3-1) and fellow European contenders SC Freiburg (1-3).

Form Guide

H2H:

Barcelona are unbeaten in the last three meetings between the two teams, with two sides actually meeting in this year’s UEFA Champions League competition. The first half was largely uneventful when these teams met back in December, until an excellent second half provided five goals in a 3-2 victory for Barcelona. Serhou Guirassy scored a brace for the hosts, whilst Raphinha and a brace from former Manchester City midfielder Ferran Torres secured the victory for Hansi Flick’s side.

Barcelona:

Barcelona are in excellent form across all competitions, as previously mentioned. The home side are unbeaten in their previous 22 matches across all competitions, and the hosts ended their UEFA Champions League group phase unbeaten at home. Los Cules have won five of their previous six games, which includes a victory against Atletico Madrid (0-1), as well as further victories against Osasuna (3-0) and Girona (4-1).

At home, Barcelona’s record has been exemplary, with only three losses from 15 league matches and having remained unbeaten in the home European matches.

Borussia Dortmund:

Borussia Dortmund are in impressive form, having won three of their previous five matches in all competitions, which includes their second leg victory against Lille (1-2) in the previous round of the UEFA Champions League. The visitors are coming into this game with two consecutive league victories against SC Freiburg (1-4) and Mainz 05 (3-1).

Away from home, Niko Kovac’s have won three of their previous five matches on their travels with the victories against SC Freiburg and Lille, with a further victory against St.Pauli (0-2).
