Brest vs. PSG - Prediction

It's very difficult to make a case for anything other than a comfortable PSG win here. PSG beat Brest away from home 5-2 in Ligue 1 only a couple of weeks ago, meaning they've won four of their last five head-to-head meetings with Brest, with the latter having never beaten PSG in their history.

PSG are also on top form and come into this game unbeaten in their last 16 games, winning nine of their last ten.

Forward Ousmane Dembélé is in the form of his life having notched a jaw-dropping ten goals in his last five games for the club, so he looks like a very safe bet for a goal in what should be a fairly one-sided win for the visitors. Brest 1-4 PSG.

Brest vs. PSG: Prediction, Preview & Betting Tips

Brest are hoping to pull off a monumental upset in the Champions League as they take on fellow countrymen PSG.

  • Date: 11/02/2025
  • Kick-off time: 17:45
  • Location: Stade municipal de Roudourou, Guingamp

Brest finished 18th in the Champions League group stage table with 13 points from eight games. The Ligue 1 side were one of the surprise packages of the group phase, securing a playoff spot when many expected them to comfortably be a bottom 12 side. At one point, it even looked as though they might seal a top eight spot after they took seven points from their first games, and although they did regress from there, they still performed very admirably.

Brest currently sit 8th in Ligue 1 and are suffering a pretty stark dropoff from last season, so this is likely going to be their last Champions League campaign for a while. Brest were shock qualifiers last season, and it now feels quite likely that last season's 3rd place finish was a flash in the pan rather than a sign of what’s to come.

The French club are powered by a pair of very handy forwards in Ludovic Ajorque and Abdallah Sima, who have 10 and 8 goals respectively this season. If they are going to pull of an upset in this tie, those two will be key.

Brest will feel mightily aggrieved at having drawn PSG in this competition, given a domestic tie kills a lot of the romance involved in a maiden appearance in this historic competition. That, in addition to the fact they have an awful head-to-head record against the Parisians, probably makes for quite an underwhelming tie in comparison to what could have been for them.

PSG finished 12th in the Champions League group stage with 13 points from 8 games. Overall, PSG will consider their group stage showing to have been short of what is expected of them, as a team containing the kind of quality that they boast should easily be a top eight side in this competition. However, after a slow start, they really grew into the competition and looked much more of a force as the weeks passed by - which largely been the story of their season.

After a fairly meek first few months, PSG have really sprung to life under Luis Enrique and are emerging as one of the favourites to win this competition. Enrique fields a fluid front three of mobile forwards, without a recognised number 9, and Ousmane Dembélé, their current top scorer, is enjoying the best season of his career so far.

The Parisians have drawn immense praise from their Ligue 1 counterparts in recent weeks, with Monaco manager Adi Hütter claiming, “This is the best PSG I have seen”, while captain Denis Zakaria also admitted that he’s never seen PSG this strong.

Since the Qatari-led takeover in the early 2010s, PSG have come to be known as chronic underachievers at this level, consistently coming up short despite eyewatering levels of investment in the squad. In a season without many other outstanding candidates, this could finally be the year that PSG break their duck, as it could be a while before they’re this strong relative to the rest of the competition. They first need to dispatch Brest, but they’re quite likely to get the job done in the first leg alone.

Team News

Brest Team News:

The home side are likely to be without Bradley Locko and Jonas Martin for this one.

After a solid performance at the weekend, Éric Roy could name the same starting XI for this game as he did on Friday night.

Predicted lineup: Bizot; Lala, Chardonnet, Coulibaly, Haïdara; Camara, Lees-Melou, Magnetti; Faivre, Ajorque, Sima.

PSG Team News:

Youngsters Ibrahim Mbaye and Warren Zaïre-Emery will once again miss out for the Parisians, who are otherwise doing quite well on the injury front.

January signing Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is in line to start his first Champions League game for the club, as he joins Ousmane Dembélé and Bradley Barcola in a very mobile front three.

Predicted lineup: Donnarumma; Hakimi, Marquinhos, Pacho, Mendes; Ruiz, Vitinha, Lee; Barcola, Dembélé, Kvaratskhelia.

Brest vs. PSG - Form Guide

Brest:

Brest come into this game in decent form, with three wins and two losses from their last five matches. On Friday night, goals from Ludovic Ajorque and Pierre Lees-Melou sealed a pretty comfortable 2-0 win over Nantes, which came after a 2-1 win at Troyes in the Coupe de France, courtesy of goals from Ibrahim Salah and Abdallah Sima, which followed a 2-5 defeat at the hands of PSG.

Before that, Brest were comprehensively beaten 0-3 by PSG, which came after a 1-0 win over Le Havre thanks to a goal from Ajorque.

PSG:

PSG are in very strong form as they enter this game with four wins and one draw from their last five games. The Parisians romped to a 4-1 win over Monaco at the weekend, with goals from Vitinha and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, alongside a brace from Ousmane Dembélé, getting the job done.

Prior to that, goals from Désiré Doué and Bradley Barcola sealed a 2-0 win over Le Mans in the Coupe de France, which was preceded by a thumping 5-2 win over Brest - thanks to a Dembélé hat-trick and a brace from Gonçalo Ramos - and a 4-1 win away at Stuttgart, courtesy of another Dembélé hat-trick and a goal from Barcola.

Those results preceded a 1-1 draw with Reims, where Dembélé's first half goal was cancelled out.
