Juventus vs. PSV - Prediction

Juventus beat PSV 3-1 when these two sides met in the group phase back in September, and it's likely we'll see a similar result here.

PSV have only one win from their last five Champions League games on the road, while Juventus have lost only one of their last eleven games on home soil. With Randal Kolo Muani having revitalised the side, we fancy the Old Lady to come out on top here. Juventus 2-1 PSV.

Juventus vs. PSV: Prediction, Preview & Betting Tips

The playoff round of the Champions League commences this week, and we have an interesting tie coming from Turin as Juventus take on PSV.

  • Date: 11/02/2025
  • Kick-off time: 20:00
  • Location: Allianz Stadium, Turin

Juventus finished 20th in the Champions League table with 12 points from 8 games. With Max Allegri departing the club after a long stint in charge, the Old Lady had a fairly drastic makeover in the summer, with Thiago Motta proceeding taking the reins at the club after a successful period at Bologna. On top of that, Juve turned over a notable number of players and replaced them with some ambitious signings, and despite that garnering a significant degree of optimism from media members and fans, the team hasn’t quite lived up to expectations.

Juve are improving as the months progress, and they’re now placed 5th in Serie A, but they’ve spent the majority of the campaign outside of the top four places in the league and have largely stumbled through their Champions League group. The Italian giants have lost only once in the league all season, but having drawn a whopping 13 games, they have a remarkable inability to kill games. Still, club officials will feel as though Motta has developed a strong foundation from which the team can build and eventually go on to challenge for major honours.

The Old Lady picked up French international striker Randal Kolo Muani from PSG on loan in January, and the forward is having a monumental impact on the side. There are strong rumours that Motta has a very fractured relationship with striker Dušan Vlahović, who many expect to leave the club in the summer, and with the Serbian having underperformed this season, the team has been calling out for a killer up top. Since Kolo Muani’s arrival, he’s notched five goals in three appearances, displaying what many people see as transformative potential to the club's prospects.

Juventus last reached the final of this competition in 2016/17, and since then, they haven’t been beyond the quarter-final. Whether they have enough quality to go beyond that stage this season is a big question, but it does feel like a club that might be heading in the right direction. They’re the favourites to win this tie, but they might have to wait another couple of years before they can make a serious run at the trophy.

PSV finished 14th in the Champions League table with 14 points from eight games. On balance, it’s fair to say that PSV surpassed expectations in the Champions League group stage. The Dutch champions didn’t have the hardest set of fixtures, but they picked up an impressive draw away at PSG and beat Liverpool (albeit a much-changed Liverpool side) on the final match week of the campaign. As a result, they’ve been rewarded with a home tie in the second leg of this matchup.

In the Eredivisie, PSV are 2nd to Ajax in the table, trailing the Amsterdam-based club on their unfavourable head-to-head record, having also played a game more than Ajax. PSV have already lost two more games than they lost in the entirety of last season in the league, so the team is clearly amidst a quite notable dropoff. The club has invested fairly heavily into its squad, but they’re currently on track to lose their league title.

PSV haven’t gone beyond the last 16 in this competition since 2005/06, and they’ll find it tough to manage that this season. They already faced Juventus in the group stage back in September and fell to a 3-1 defeat, so that could well be a sign of what’s in store here. Juventus have gone on to get some poor results in this competition since, so the writing is not exactly on the wall, but with a few injuries to contend with, things look tough for the Dutch side here.

Where To Watch

This game will be televised live to all subscribed UK viewers on TNT Sports 1.

Team News

Juventus Team News:

The Old Lady remain without defenders Pierre Kalulu, Bremer and Juan Cabal, Andrea Cambiaso and Arkadiusz Milik are likely to miss out once again.

Randal Kolo Muani will almost certainly keep Dušan Vlahović out of the team to lead the line, with few changes expected from the weekend's game at Como.

Predicted lineup: Di Gregorio; Weah, Gatti, Veiga, Savona; McKennie, Locatelli; Gonzalez, Koopmeiners, Yildiz; Kolo Muani.

PSV Team News:

The Dutch outfit could be without Adamo Nagalo after the defender was forced off with an injury at the weekend, and with Olivier Boscagli already out injured, his absence would leave them light in defence.

Additionally, Malik Tillman, Ricardo Pepi and Richard Ledezma are all still on the sidelines and will play no part here.

Predicted lineup: Benítez; Karsdorp, Flamingo, Obispo, Junior; Veerman, Schouten; Bakayoko, Til, Lang; De Jong.

Juventus vs. PSV - Form Guide

Juventus:

Juventus' form of late has been mixed, with the Italian giants having won two, drawn one and lost two of their last five games. Thiago Motta's side took on Como at the weekend and in what was a tricky test, they emerged 2-1 winners thanks to a brace from Randal Kolo Muani.

Before that, a Kolo Muani brace alongside goals from Dušan Vlahović and Francisco Conceição produced a 4-1 win over Empoli, which followed a 0-2 defeat to Benfica and a 2-1 loss to Napoli.

Those results followed a 0-0 draw with Club Brugge.

PSV:

PSV come into this game unbeaten in their last five outings, with three wins and two draws from those games. The Dutch giants were held to a 1-1 draw by Willem II at the weekend after Noa Lang's goal was cancelled out, a result that was preceded by a 2-0 win over Feyenoord, courtesy of Johan Bakayoko and Guus Til, and a 3-3 draw away at NEC, where the goals came from Luuk de Jong, Ismael Saibari and Bakayoko.

Prior to that, PSV beat Liverpool 3-2 thanks to goals from Bakayoko, Saibari and Ricardo Pepi, which was preceded by a 3-2 win over NAC Breda, via a brace from Til and a goal from Pepi.
