Manchester City's 2025-26 Champions League campaign resumes this week as they lock horns with Ligue 1 side Monaco.
- Date: 01/10/2025
- Kick-off: 8:00pm
- Location: Stade Louis II, Monaco
Pep Guardiola's side have enjoyed a decent start to the season, with five wins, one draw and two defeats from eight games. Following their two defeats, City have been on a strong run, winning four and drawing one of their last five matches. In their opening game of the Champions League, Guardiola's side sailed to a comfortable 2-0 win over Napoli - a strong result for the Mancunians.
Monaco, though, have had mixed results, with some very resounding defeats in recent weeks. Monaco have won four and lost three of their seven games this season, but the concern on their part is that the games they've lost have largely been against their toughest opposition. Defeats at Lille (1-0) and Lorient (3-1) in the league - in addition to a 4-1 hammering at the hands of Club Brugge in the opening week of this competition - leave serious question marks surrounding this team.
Monaco's recent games have been chaotic, with their last five outings averaging 4.8 goals per game, all of which have seen BTTS occur. The team has some impressive firepower in attack, through most notably youngster Maghnes Akilouche, but their defence leaves something to be desired, with their expected goals against rate of 1.34xGA undoing much of the good work they do going forward.
With City having scored 13 goals in their last five games, they'll fancy their chances against a very vulnerable Monaco side, and while the home side carry plenty of threat, this one looks like City's to lose.
