Newcastle are hoping to maintain their good form in the Champions League as they take on Marseille this week.
- Date: 25/11/2025
- Kick-off: 8:00pm
- Location: Stade Vélodrome, Marseille
Newcastle are currently 6th in the Champions League table with nine points from four games. After a tough start which saw them lose 1-2 at home to Barcelona, the Magpies have picked up three successive wins, coming against Union Saint-Gilloise (4-0), Benfica (2-0), and Athletic Club (2-0). Last season, 11 points was enough to ensure progression to the knockout phase, so a win here should be enough to seal that with games to spare.
Newcastle's league form has been mixed this season as they sit 14th in the Premier League with 15 points. They are, though, coming off the back of a 2-1 win over Manchester City, which is their signature win of the season.
Eddie Howe's side have now won three of their last five games, losing the other two, which BTTS and over 2.5 goals have both occurred in three of their last four games. Newcastle's away form (three defeats from their last three) makes it less likely they can pull off the win here, but their excellent form in this competition will ensure they're confident of a result.
Marseille, meanwhile, are 25th in the Champions League table with three points from four games. The French side have struggled in this competition, losing three of their four games, with their losses coming against Atalanta (1-0), Sporting (2-1), and Real Madrid (2-1), with their win coming against Ajax (4-0).
Domestically, though, the team are flying, as they sit 2nd in Ligue 1 with 28 points from 13 games, just two points behind PSG. Their form overall is strong, with three wins, one draw and one loss from their last five, with their latest outing a resounding 5-1 win over Nice. Over 2.5 goals have been scored in three of their last five games, while BTTS has occurred in five of their last eight.
Marseille have lost only one of their last five at home, but given their rocky record in this competition compared to Newcastle's, home advantage will likely be nullified somewhat. All in all, we expect the spoils to be shared here in an entertaining encounter.
Marseille 2-2 Newcastle
