PSG vs Aston Villa Prediction

Paris Saint-Germain showed that this season could be a turning point for Le Parisiens in their quest to be recognised as a strong European powerhouse. PSG’s performance in both legs against Premier League leaders Liverpool was simply excellent, with the first leg displaying their dominance against the best team in England this season.

PSG are unbeaten domestically this season and have only lost once at home across all competitions, which was the first-leg defeat in the round of 16 to Liverpool. The home side have won their last six matches coming into this game, and their team is blessed with quality across the pitch, especially with the midfield three of Vitinha, Joao Neves, and Fabian providing an excellent balance.

Aston Villa will undoubtedly provide a stern test for Paris Saint-Germain, as Unai Emery faces his former employers. The Villains are going to set up to break on the counter-attack, which could work well in their favour, and we see them potentially scoring the first goal in this tie, with the visitors having scored first in seven of their previous eight matches in all competitions.

Ultimately, PSG’s overall quality of their squad will likely secure them a first-leg victory against Unai Emery’s side and with a 2-1 scoreline.

PSG 2-1 Aston Villa.

PSG vs Aston Villa Preview & Prediction

Ligue 1 Champions PSG will face a visit from former manager Unai Emery on Wednesday, as he takes his Aston Villa side to the Parc de Princes for the first-leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-final.

Date: 09/04/2025
Location: Parc de Princes, Paris.
Kick-Off: 8 pm

Paris Saint-Germain have been magnificent under Luis Enrique this season, with the whole ethos of the club steering away from signing the major superstars and focusing on building a dynasty domestically and potentially on the European stage. This season, the home side have already secured the expected league championship, making this the 13th time Le Parisiens have won Ligue 1. Luis Enrique’s side secured the title emphatically with six games to spare and 24 points clear of second-place AS Monaco.

On the European stage, the home side could well find that this will finally be the year they win their first European Cup, having been beaten finalists in 2020. PSG made it through to this round after finishing 15th in the league phase and beating Stade Brestois 29 (10-0) on aggregate. Their first big test was arguably against Liverpool in the round of 16, in which in the first leg, PSG recorded 27 shots and still succumbed to a 1-0 defeat thanks to a late goal from Liverpool’s Harvey Elliott.

The return leg saw something quite unprecedented, with PSG securing a 1-0 win in normal time, thanks to Ousmane Dembele. The tie was decided on penalties, with Gianluigi Donnarumma repeating his penalty heroics from the UEFA Euro 2020 final by saving two penalties from Darwin Nunez and Curtis Jones. Desire Doue stepped in to secure the victory for Luis Enrique’s side.

Aston Villa are making a late surge towards UEFA Champions League qualification, following their excellent January transfer window, which saw the likes of Marco Asensio and Marcus Rashford join and make immediate improvements to the club’s form. The Villains are in sixth place in the Premier League and only one point (as it stands) behind the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea following their impressive 2-1 victory against Nottingham Forest.

Unai Emery has led a brilliant revolution at Villa Park, as Aston Villa are also in the semi-final of the FA Cup in which they will play Crystal Palace. The away side were also excellent in the league phase of this competition, collecting 16 points from eight matches and only conceding six goals during those eight games.
