Newcastle United are searching for their first win of the 2025-26 Champions League group phase as they lock horns with Union Saint-Gilloise this week.
- Date: 01/10/2025
- Kick-off: 5:45pm
- Location: Constant Vanden Stock Stadium, Brussels
The Magpies have won only one game in the Premier League this season, but they'll feel as though that's not reflective of their overall performance level. Eddie Howe's men were seconds away from claiming a point against Liverpool with ten men after dominating the game, while they also fell to an injury-time loss to Arsenal at the weekend after being competitive throughout. Newcastle also gave Barcelona a very good game in a 2-1 loss in this competition, so results don't paint the full picture of their campaign. Given how much their season has been impacted by key absences in attack, it's of little surprise that they've not been able to swing fine margins in their favour.
Belgian side Union Saint-Gilloise have had a very good season so far, winning eight and drawing two of their ten games in all competitions. In this competition, USG beat PSV 3-1 away from home in the opening week, marking a very good result for them to build on. Given how much momentum they currently have, it's likely to be a very tough game for Newcastle.
All of Newcastle's three games away from home have ended in draws this season, and despite the fact that Newcastle have a talent advantage on paper, we think it'll be tough for the Magpies to take all three points. Both teams have scored in two of their last three games, so don't expect either side to draw a blank in front of goal, but we do expect the spoils to be shared.
