Sheffield United vs Hull City Prediction

Sheffield United enter this game in far superior form to their opponents as they've won three of their last four games, compared to Hull, who have won three of their last 21 matches. The Blades have only suffered four defeats in the Championship this campaign, in contrast to Hull who have lost 14 of their 28 league fixtures.

United have a solid head-to-head record in this fixture, as they've won six of their last seven meetings with the Tigers, while the other meeting resulted in a 0-0 draw. Hull's last win in this fixture came all the way back in August 2018. On top of this, Sheffield United have kept four clean sheets in a row against Friday’s opponents.

Sheffield United 2-0 Hull City

Sheffield United vs Hull City Prediction & Preview

Sheffield United will be looking to maintain their place at the top of the Championship when they host 21st-place Hull City at Bramall Lane.

Date: 24/01/2025

Location: Bramall Lane, Sheffield

Time: 8pm

The Blades know that a win against Hull is vital, as their Yorkshire rivals Leeds United are breathing down their necks, as Daniel Farke’s are just two points behind Sheffield United with a game in hand.

Chris Wilder has done a terrific job at Sheffield United, as despite struggling in the Premier League since his return to the club on 5th December onwards, the 57-year-old has managed to refocus his side in the aftermath of what was a brutal relegation that saw them finish on just 16 points from 38 matches.

Sheffield United have managed to accumulate 58 points from 28 matches via 18 wins and six draws and would actually be on 60 points had they not started the campaign with a two-point deduction. Their home form is outstanding, as they have won 10, drawn two and suffered just one defeat from their 13 matches at Bramall Lane, hence why they are priced at 3/5 to beat Hull on Friday.

The Tigers have had a turbulent 2024/25 campaign, having initially started the season under the management of ex-Hamburg manager Tim Walter, who oversaw just three wins during his 18 matches in charge before being sacked on 27th November. Following a brief spell under Caretaker Manager Andy Dawson, former Reading and Southampton manager Ruben Selles has taken over at the MKM Stadium.

Selles has fared slightly better, having won three and drawn three of his 10 matches in charge, seeing the club move up to 21st in the Championship, only outside the relegation zone on goal difference ahead of newly-promoted Portsmouth and, recently relegated, Luton Town.

Interestingly, Hull’s away form is superior to their home form, as they’ve picked up 14 points from 13 matches away from the MKM Stadium which is actually the 10th-best record in the division, while their home form, is the worst in the division, having accumulated just 12 points from 15 games.

Form Guide

Sheffield United

As previously mentioned, Sheffield United are in the better form of the two sides, having managed to win three of their last five fixtures. All of the aforementioned victories have come in the Championship against the likes of Swansea City (2-1), Norwich City (2-0) and Watford (2-1). Interestingly, summer signing from Peterborough United, Harrison Burrows has scored three times in his last two appearances for the Blades, he is priced at 3/1 to score anytime.

Chris Wilder’s men did suffer two defeats in this run though, with the most recent being a shock 1-0 home loss to Cardiff City in the FA Cup, while their last league defeat came on New Year’s Day away at Sunderland.

Hull City

Hull City suffered a dismal 2-1 home defeat to Queens Park Rangers last time out, meaning that a defeat here would likely strike more relegation fears into the Tigers, especially when taking into consideration that Portsmouth have two games in hand on Ruben Selles’ men.

Prior to that game, Hull managed a solid 1-0 away win at Millwall, as a 58th-minute own goal from Jake Cooper was enough to give them all three points. This came after contrasting results that saw them be knocked out of the FA Cup by Doncaster Rovers on penalties after a 1-1 draw, as well as a 1-0 defeat to Middlesbrough on either side of an impressive 3-3 draw with promotion hopefuls Leeds United.
