Following the league fixture in midweek and the subsequent form of both of these sides, expect Birmingham City to secure the first leg of their league and cup double at the weekend, when they face Peterborough United.
The league fixture between the two sides resulted in a 2-1 victory for the Blues, but an important thing to note is that with the quality and depth of their squad, they were able to rest players in midweek, so they are likely to be a stronger outfit at the weekend.
The win in midweek extended Birmingham City’s record to four consecutive victories and no losses in their previous seven matches. Peterborough United were able to strike against Birmingham City in midweek, with the Blues now six games without a clean sheet.
Peterborough United will be missing key defensive players such as Tayo Edun, Carl Johnston and Sam Hughes. The latter of which has been excellent for the Posh, as the on-loan Stockport County defender has helped the club to five clean sheets in a two-month spell, with the Posh having previously gone since August without a shutout.
We can’t look past Birmingham City in this fixture. Despite the Posh having an impressive record of being unbeaten at Wembley in their three appearances thus far, with the return of key players for Birmingham City, we predict a 3-1 win here.
Birmingham City 3-1 Peterborough United.
