Rangers vs Fenerbahce Prediction

Rangers took a surprising first-leg victory away at Fenerbahce and have secured themselves one foot into the quarter-finals of the Europa League. However, with Jose Mourinho at the helm, we believe that Fenerbahce won’t make their passage to the next round a comfortable one, to say the least.

Rangers are still susceptible at the back, with the home side failing to keep a clean sheet, which could provide Fenerbahce a scope to build on. Interestingly, goals are a custom based on the recent results for both of these sides, with Over 2.5 goals landing in eight of the last ten involving Rangers and six of the last seven matches involving Fenerbahce.

Rangers’ home form will give the visitors some optimism in obtaining a result, with the Gers winless in their last three matches at Ibrox.

Ultimately, we think Rangers will progress in this tie, but we can certainly see an away win for the visitors to at least cause some concern for the Ibrox faithful.

We are going for a 2-1 Fenerbahce win.

Rangers vs Fenerbahce Preview & Prediction

Rangers and Fenerbahce meet in the round of 16 of the UEFA Europa League, with the home side securing an excellent victory in the away leg.

Date: 13/03/2025
Location: Ibrox, Glasgow.
Kick-Off: 8 pm

Barry Ferguson’s tenure as interim manager finally gained some positive momentum with a terrific victory away at Fenerbahce. Rangers were excellent in the game and thoroughly deserved their victory by utilising their 36% possession in creating three big chances, and ended up winners thanks to goals from Vaclav Cerny (x2) and Cyriel Dessers.

The former Rangers midfielder is expected to be relieved of his duties once the new ownership settles into the club. However, his chances of securing a job elsewhere were obviously enhanced by the result against Fenerbahce and potential progression into the next round. Rangers finished eighth in the UEFA Europa League league phase, securing 14 points and finishing ahead of teams such as Anderlecht and FCSB on goal difference.

The UEFA Europa League remains the only tournament for success for Rangers this season, as they are 16 points behind Celtic and out of the Scottish Cup at the hands of Queens Park.

Fenerbahce’s performance against Rangers would have left Jose Mourinho frustrated, with his side squandering chances with 23 shots for the Turkish outfit. Fenerbahce have underperformed in this competition, with a plethora of ex-Premier League players scattered across the squad.

Fenerbahce only just qualified for the play-off phases of this competition by finishing 24th in the league phase of the UEFA Europa League. Fenerbahce then overcame Anderlecht in a 5-2 aggregate scoreline.

Where to watch

The game will be available to watch on TNT Sports 2.

Form Guide

Rangers:

The two have only met once in European competition in the last ten years ahead of this second leg, with Rangers 3-1 victory over the visitors marking the first competitive tie between the two teams.

Rangers are coming into this game with rather decent form across all competitions, as Barry Ferguson’s side will hope to use that for confidence ahead of the clash on Thursday. Rangers have won three of their last five matches in all competitions, securing victories against Fenerbahce (1-3), Kilmarnock (2-4) and Hearts (1-3). Defensively, though, Barry Ferguson will need to improve his side for the limited time he will be at the helm, as Rangers have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last six matches.

On home soil, Rangers have been poor as of late, with three consecutive defeats for the home side. Rangers have suffered defeats against the likes of Motherwell (1-2), St.Mirren (0-2) and most notably against Queens Park (0-1) - in which James Tavernier missed an injury-time penalty to secure an equaliser.

Fenerbahce:

Jose Mourinho’s side are in impressive form, with their defeat against Rangers the only blip in their recent run of form. Fenerbahce have only lost once in their last matches in all competitions, and before the defeat to Rangers, the visitors had won their last two domestic matches against Gaziantep (1-4) and Antalyaspor (3-0).

Away from home, Fenerbahce have been spectacular as the away side for this game are unbeaten in their last nine away games in all competitions. Fenerbahce have secured notable wins against Alanyaspor (0-2), Kasimpasa (0-3) and Konyaspor (2-3) away from home in their last nine games.
