Tottenham Hotspur vs Elfsborg Prediction, Preview & Betting Tips

Despite their recent struggles, Tottenham enter this game as strong favourites to beat Swedish Allsvenskan outfit Elfsborg due to the quality in their squad. Ange Postecoglou’s side will know that this competition represent their best opportunity to qualify for next season’s Champions League - Spurs earned a vital 3-2 away victory at Hoffenheim in their last European outing.

Interestingly, Elfsborg are yet to earn a point away from home in this season’s Europa League Group Stage as they have suffered defeats to AZ Alkmaar (3-2), Galatasaray (4-3) and Athletic Club (3-0) and we predict their record to remain the same, however, we do expect them to get on the scoresheet against a Tottenham side that have leaked nine goals in their last four matches.

Prediction: Tottenham 3-1 Elfsborg

Tottenham Hotspur vs Elfsborg Prediction & Preview

Tottenham hosts Elfsborg at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in what could be an intense Europa League showdown, with this being a meeting of sixth against 20th, meaning that the home side will be fighting for an automatic qualification to the Round of 16, while the visitors are desperately trying to avoid elimination as a whole.

Date: 30/01/2025

Location: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Time: 8pm

Ange Postecoglou will be desperate to see his side earn all three points against Elfsborg, with it looking increasingly likely that the Australian’s job could be on the line.

So far in the Europa League, Tottenham are on course to qualify for the Round of 16 as they have accumulated 14 points from seven matches, following wins over Qarabag (3-0), Ferencvaros (2-1), AZ Alkmaar (1-0) and Hoffenheim (3-2) while drawing with Roma (2-2) and Rangers (1-1) on top of a 3-2 loss at Galatasaray.

As things stand, Spurs sit 15th in the Premier League with just 24 points from 23 matches, having won seven and drawn three of those games. At the start of the 2024/25 campaign, the Lilywhites were expected to be challenging for a place in the Champions League following their fifth-place finish in 2023/24 with 66 points, just two points shy of fourth in the table Aston Villa.

However, one shining light for Tottenham thus far has been their run to the semi-final of League Cup that has seen them progress past Coventry, Manchester City and Manchester United. They lead their semi-final against Liverpool via a 1-0 aggregate scoreline going into the second leg at Anfield on 6th February.

Elfsborg have had a superb Europa League campaign thus far, however, they will be wary that all ten of their points have came at Borås Arena against AS Roma (1-0), Sporting Braga (1-1), Qarabag (1-0) and Nice (1-0). Their away form has been an achilleas heal, however, they have given the likes of AZ Alkmaar and Galatasaray close matches, suffering 3-2 and 4-3 defeats, while their other fixture at Athletic Club resulted in a resounding 3-0 scoreline for the Spaniards.

As far as domestic form goes, Elfsborg’s Swedish Allsvenskan campaign starts in early April due to it being a summer league. In the 2024 season, Elfsborg recorded a seventh-place finish, having amassed 45 points from 30 matches. This was somewhat of a disappointing campaign, having agonisingly missed out on the league title to Malmo by just three goals in the 2023 campaign.

Form Guide

Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham will be hoping that the Europa League can provide some much-needed respite, as following their drab FA Cup win over Tamworth that saw them score three times in extra time after drawing 0-0 at full time, the Lilywhites proceeded to follow this up with league defeats to Arsenal (2-1), Everton (3-2) and Leicester City (2-1).

Spurs’ last win came in the Europa League when they beat Hoffenheim 3-2 away from home thanks to goals by James Maddison and Son Heung-min (2).

Elfsborg

Four of Elfsborg’s last five matches have came in the Europa League following the conclusion of the Swedish Allsvenskan on 10th November when they drew 0-0 away at Varnamo. The Swedes have won two of their last four Europa League matches against Nice and Qarabag via 1-0 scorelines after a 3-0 loss at Athletic Club and a 1-1 home draw with Sporting Braga.
