Leeds United vs. Millwall

Leeds are coming into this game off the back of six consecutive clean sheets, so they won't be easy to break down. Equally, Millwall will make life tough for Leeds are likely going to be the more motivated of the two sides, so that should make for a very even contest.

Ultimately, Leeds have won three of their last four head-to-head meetings with Millwall and the Lions have lost all of their last three trips to Elland Road, so we expect the home side to come out on top this weekend. Leeds 1-0 Millwall.

Leeds United vs. Millwall: Prediction, Preview & Betting Tips

Leeds United take on Millwall in the FA Cup fourth round this weekend in what could be an interesting encounter.

  • Date: 08/02/2025
  • Kick-off time: 12:15
  • Location: Elland Road, Leeds

Leeds United currently sit top of the Championship with 66 points from 31 games this season. The Peacocks are flying in the Championship, and after an up and down first couple of months of the campaign, they now look to be going from strength to strength, and are arguably playing their best football of the season.

Leeds agonisingly missed out on promotion to the Premier League last season but they entered this campaign as the firm favourites to rectify last season's wrongs, and it looks highly likely they'll do just that. They're five points clear of both Burnley and Sheffield United, and are eight points clear of Sunderland, but crucially, they're easily the most convincing of the four teams right now in terms of the standard of their play.

Striker Joël Piroe has divided opinion since joining the Yorkshire club in the summer of 2023, and he remains a very flawed striker, but especially in recent weeks, he's been coming up with big goals for the team and is now the league's second top scorer with 13 goals. If he carries on firing at his current rate, it's hard to imagine Leeds won't finish in the league's top two places.

It's very unlikely that Leeds are going to take this competition too seriously, and that's quite understandable. The chances of a Championship team making a dent in the competition are low, and with so much at stake in the league, it makes sense to heavily prioritise their Championship exploits. Even a heavily rotated Leeds XI contains a lot of quality, and they'll still be strong favourites to win this game, but they'll be more beatable than they would be on a given league weekend.

Millwall come into this game in 14th place in the Championship with 40 points from 30 games. The Lions are amidst an interesting campaign that their fans will hope is yet to peak. Millwall had a difficult opening few months which led to manager Neil Harris being dismissed of his duties, with Alex Neil taking his place. Since Neil's appointment, Millwall have been impressive and have climbed the table, to a point where they're now only four points shy of the playoff places.

The Lions renewed their squad in the January transfer market, bringing in a number of young, high-potential players, some of whom are England youth internationals, potentially signalling a change in strategy for the club, potentially aligning themselves with clubs like Sunderland.

One player who's made a big impact is attacking midfielder Raees Bangura-Williams. Signed from non-league club Tooting & Mitcham in 2023, Bangura-Williams has spent the last 18 months in the club's youth team, but since being recently introduced into the senior side, he's been flourishing and is a name to keep an eye on.

Millwall reached the semi-final of the FA Cup in 2012-13, but haven't been beyond the sixth round since. The Lions have suffered third round exits in each of the last three seasons so they've already made progress this season, and with Leeds having much bigger fish to fry, they might sense an opportunity to go even further.

Team News

Leeds Team News:

Daniel Farke will be unable to call upon Patrick Bamford, who remains out injured, and with Joël Piroe likely in line for a rest, youngster Mateo Joseph should start up top.

The likes of Largie Ramazanie and Wilfried Gnonto should also come into the starting XI, with a number of changes anticipated here.

Predicted lineup: Darlow; Byram, Rodon, Struijk, Wöber; Guilavogui, Gruev; Gnonto, Aaronson, Ramazani; Joseph.

Millwall Team News:

The Lions have a number of notable absentees, with Callum Scanlon, Josh Coburn, Femi Azee, Aidomo Amakhu and Danny McNamara all on the treatment table.

With his team not playing in midweek, Alex Neil could name a strong lineup for this one although a couple of changes are anticipated.

Predicted lineup: Jensen; Crama, Tanganga, Cooper, Bryan; Saville, Wintle; Bangura-Williams, Cundle, Watmore; Connolly.

Leeds United vs. Millwall - Form Guide

Leeds:

Leeds are in very good shape heading into this one, with Daniel Farke's men winning four and drawing one of their last five games. Leeds' most recent game was a 2-0 win away at Coventry City in the Championship, where goals from Joël Piroe and Jayden Bogle produced an impressive three points.

Before that, Leeds hammered Cardiff City 7-0 through goals from Brendan Aaronson, Manor Solomon, Dan James, Piroe (X2), Wilfried Gnonto and Mateo Joseph, which followed a 0-0 draw against Burnley.

Those results came after a 2-0 win over Norwich City, courtesy of Solomon and Dan James, and a 3-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday, by way of Solomon, Largie Ramazani and Ao Tanaka.

Millwall:

Millwall's form is solid, with the Lions boasting a record of three wins, one draw and one loss from their last five. Alex Neil's side ran out 2-1 winners of QPR last weekend, with Aaron Connolly and Luke Cundle scoring the goals.

Prior to that, a Mihailo Ivanović goal resulted in a 1-0 win over Portsmouth, which was preceded by another 1-0 win, this time against Luton Town, where Ivanović once again scored the goal.

Those results were preceded by a 2-2 draw against Cardiff City, where Callum Scanlon and Casper De Norre scored the goals, and a 0-1 loss to Hull City.
