On Sunday 30th March, Preston North End hosts Aston Villa at Deepdale in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.
Date: 30/03/2025
Location: Deepdale
Time: 1:30pm
This is the first meeting between these two sides since the 2018/19 season, when Aston Villa were competing in the Championship. The most recent head-to-head clash resulted in a 1-1 draw at Deepdale as Lukas Nmecha scored a second half equaliser for the Lilywhites after Tammy Abraham had given Villa the lead on the stroke of half time.
At present, Preston are 14th in the Championship under the management of former Sheffield United coach Paul Heckingbottom, having seen Ryan Lowe depart after just one match at the start of the season. North End are firmly mid-table, as they are nine points above the relegation zone with eight games to go, while being 10 points adrift of the play-off places.
In order to reach the quarter-finals of the FA Cup, Preston have managed to knockout the likes of Charlton Athletic (2-1), Wycombe Wanderers (4-2 on penalties after a 0-0 draw) and Burnley 3-0 in what was a feisty Lancashire derby at Deepdale.
Aston Villa have had a very busy season, as they recently managed to qualify for the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League where they’ll play PSG after defeating Club Brugge 6-1 on aggregate. In the Premier League, Unai Emery’s men sit ninth in the table with 45 points from 29 matches, just four points adrift of fourth-place Chelsea.
In the FA Cup, Villa have managed to progress past the likes of West Ham United (2-1), Tottenham Hotspur (2-1) and Cardiff City (2-0) to reach the quarter-finals.
