Brighton vs Newcastle Prediction

Brighton & Hove Albion host Newcastle United, with the Magpies closing in on UEFA Champions League qualification. The visitors will hope to break this unwanted record of four games without a win against the Seagulls when they travel to Brighton on Sunday.

Brighton & Hove Albion’s win against West Ham United, ended the home side’s run of six games without a win in all competitions, to which they had received three red cards in those run of matches. Defensively, the home side could be vulnerable, as they have not kept a clean sheet in their last five games, coming up against a Newcastle United side that has scored first in eight of their previous nine matches.

The Magpies are in excellent form coming into this game, with their defeat against Aston Villa their only blemish on a run that has seen the visitors win five of the previous six Premier League matches.

There could be goals in this game, as over 2.5 goals have been scored in the last five matches involving Brighton & Hove Albion and in the previous seven games involving Newcastle United.

We are predicting a 3-1 victory for Newcastle United. Despite Brighton’s record against Newcastle United, the overall form of the Seagulls won’t be able to stop a Newcastle United side in the ascendency.

Brighton 1-3 Newcastle United

Brighton vs Newcastle Preview & Prediction

Brighton & Hove Albion and Newcastle United meet for the third time this season, with the visitors closing in on a potential UEFA Champions League place.

Date: 04/05/2025
Location: American Express Stadium, Brighton.
Kick-Off: 2 pm

The two sides have met twice already this season, with Brighton & Hove Albion being victorious in both the league meeting (0-1) and the FA Cup (1-2). The Seagulls' season has faltered slightly in recent weeks due to their form, although the win against West Ham United (3-2) has put Brighton & Hove Albion in a good position for a potential European spot. If Brighton & Hove Albion finish in eighth place, they would need bitter rivals Crystal Palace to lose the FA Cup final and for Chelsea to win the UEFA Europa Conference League to free up a potential eighth spot for the final European place.

Newcastle United have had an excellent season, with the club having secured their first domestic trophy since 1955 when they lifted the Carabao Cup. Now coming towards the end of the season, Eddie Howe’s side are now favourites to finish inside the top five and secure their second UEFA Champions League qualification in the space of three seasons. The Magpies are in third place in the Premier League, and could have the opportunity to sneak ahead of Arsenal in the race for second place in the league. The visitors for this game are two points clear of Nottingham Forest in sixth place and only five points behind Arsenal, with the Gunners having priorities in the UEFA Champions League, which could distract their league form.

Where to watch

The game will be available on Sky Sports Premier League and Sky Sports Main Event.

Form Guide

Brighton:

Brighton & Hove Albion ended a run of six games without a win, with their dramatic win against West Ham United (3-2). The Seagulls managed to claw back a 2-1 deficit late on thanks to late goals from Kaoru Mitoma and a late screamer from Carlos Baleba, who had been playing as a makeshift centre back. The Seagulls had suffered three defeats in their previous five league matches against Brentford (4-2), Crystal Palace (2-1) and Aston Villa (0-3).

At home in the Premier League, Brighton & Hove Albion have been relatively strong in recent weeks, with four wins from their previous six matches at the American Express Stadium, with notable victories against Fulham (2-1), Bournemouth (2-1) and Chelsea (3-0).

Newcastle:

Newcastle United are in excellent domestic form, as their defeat against Aston Villa (4-1) is their only blemish on a run that has seen the Magpies win five of their previous six Premier League matches. The visitors have recorded notable victories against Crystal Palace (5-0), Manchester United (4-1) and Ipswich Town (3-0) in their last four games.

The away side’s form on their travels is less than desirable, though, with only two wins from their previous five away league matches against Leicester City (0-3) and West Ham United (0-1).
