Leicester vs Southampton Prediction

This game is admittedly a tough one to call, but for all the wrong reasons, as the two worst sides in the Premier League meet at the weekend with nothing but pride on the line, as both are already preparing for life back in the Championship.

Leicester City are winless in their previous 12 matches, and defensively, they have been nothing short of shambolic, as the Foxes have not kept a clean sheet in 30 games in all competitions.
Equally, Southampton’s situation is no better. The Saints are desperate to achieve at least a point so they don’t equal Derby County’s lowest points tally in the Premier League. Southampton are winless in their previous 11, with no clean sheets in their last 15.

Despite this, we are leaning towards a Southampton victory. Goals have been difficult for Leicester City, as the Foxes have only scored twice in their last 11 league fixtures. Although recent results have been woeful, Southampton have at least scored a goal in four of their previous five league games.

With that being said, we can envision a scenario where Southampton could secure a 1-0 victory, with neither side displaying much quality.

Leicester City 0-1 Southampton

Leicester vs Southampton Preview & Prediction

Leicester City and Southampton meet on Saturday, with this game essentially a dead rubber with nothing on offer for either side.

Date: 03/05/2025
Location: King Power Stadium, Leicester.
Kick-Off: 3 pm

Leicester City’s return to the Premier League has been nothing short of a disaster, with recruitment not up to the required standard and evidently, results have proven difficult to come by as the Foxes were relegated following a defeat to Liverpool (0-1) at home. Ruud van Nistelrooy’s tenure has rightly been criticised due to his performances and tactics at Leicester City since his arrival from Manchester United, where he was in charge temporarily.

Following Leicester City’s defeat against Wolves (3-0), the Dutchman now has an abysmal win rate, with only 0.48 points per game as Leicester City manager. Van Nistelrooy has won only three of his 23 matches in charge of the home side, with Leicester City in 19th place in the Premier League, seven points clear of the visitors.

Southampton are the only team in a worse position than Leicester City. With four games to go, the Saints only need one point to avoid the embarrassment of levelling Derby County’s points tally from the ill-fated 2007/08 season.

The reverse league meeting between the two sides was an entertaining affair, with five goals shared as Leicester City came out on top thanks to some late heroics from Jordan Ayew. Southampton were two goals up thanks to first-half strikes from Cameron Archer and Joe Aribo. Facundo Buananotte grabbed a goal back for the Foxes before Ryan Fraser (Southampton) handed Leicester the impetus in this game. Fraser conceded a penalty and was duly dismissed, which allowed Jamie Vardy to score from the spot. In the 98th minute, Jordan Ayew was the hero with his late strike.

Where to watch

Team News

Leicester City Team News

Abdul Fatawu is unlikely to make a return to the squad before the season ends, with the Foxes looking at an immediate return to the Championship. Stephy Mavididi is also unavailable for Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side.

Southampton Team News

Charlie Taylor remains unavailable for Southampton because of a long-term injury. Expect Jack Stephens to retain his place in the side, following his goal against Fulham.

Form Guide

Leicester City:

Leicester City are on a terrible run of form, as the Foxes have gone 12 games without a win in all competitions. Their last Premier League victory came against Tottenham Hotspur (1-2) in late January, and since that win, Leicester City have now lost their last 10 of 11 league matches. The only point they have gained in that run was a 2-2 draw away against Brighton & Hove Albion.

The Foxes’ home record has been dismal, with the home side having only won twice at home this season. Leicester City have conceded 34 goals at home this season, with their last home win being against West Ham United (3-1) in the Premier League.

Southampton:

Southampton are without a win in their previous 11 matches in all competitions, following their late 2-1 defeat against Fulham. The Saints have lost three of their previous five matches, although they have picked up two respectable draws against West Ham United (1-1) and Crystal Palace (1-1).

Southampton have shown minor signs of improvement ahead of this game by scoring at least once in four of their previous five Premier League matches. Southampton’s last away win was against Ipswich Town (1-2) back in February.
