Southampton vs Fulham Prediction

Fulham should be the overwhelming favourites against a Southampton side who are already relegated from the Premier League and under temporary management. Southampton’s overall form and their record against Fulham will give the Cottagers a likely victory in this fixture.

Southampton have nothing to play for, and the Saints don’t look set for a win anytime soon, as they are chasing their first win in 10 matches in all competitions. Defensively, Southampton have the worst defence in the Premier League, with 78 goals conceded in 33 games played.

Fulham’s record against the Saints is relatively strong, as the visitors are unbeaten in the last three meetings between the two sides, having won two of the last three league meetings against the hosts. Fulham may have lost their previous two matches, but they will welcome a straightforward victory against a side that have not kept a clean sheet in 14 games.

There could be goals in this one. Fulham have not kept a clean sheet in five games and over 2.5 goals have been scored in seven of the last nine matches involving Southampton and four in the previous five involving Fulham.

Southampton 1-3 Fulham

Southampton vs Fulham Preview & Prediction

Marco Silva’s side will be looking to get back to winning ways when they face an already-relegated Southampton side on Saturday.

Date: 26/04/2025
Location: St.Mary’s
Kick-Off: 3 pm

Southampton’s draw against West Ham United (1-1) last time out has now ensured that the Saints will not finish on a lower points tally than Derby County. The Saints, now under the temporary management of Simon Rusk and Adam Lallana, are now only fighting to achieve one more point to avoid being in the same category as the ill-fated Derby County team of 2007/08.

This season, the home side have made a poor attempt in survival and their defeat against Tottenham Hotspur (3-1) sealed their immediate return to the Championship. The home side have had two managerial changes this season, with Ivan Juric having left the club immediately following the aftermath of relegation, after he replaced promotion-winning manager, Russell Martin.

Southampton have only scored 24 league goals this season and have conceded 78 goals, while only winning twice all season and losing 26 matches. The Saints are seven points behind fellow relegated side Leicester City, meaning a win will do nothing for their league position, only moving them three points clear of the Derby County side from 07/08.

Fulham have been great this season, with notable victories against Liverpool (3-2) and Tottenham Hotspur (2-0), as well as knocking Manchester United out of the FA Cup. The Cottagers are in ninth place in the Premier League, and they could be in line to secure a UEFA Europa Conference League place based on specific scenarios. Newcastle United have secured a spot in said European competition this season, with their Carabao Cup success and should they finish inside the top five spots, Fulham, as it stands, will take that Conference League spot from the Magpies should they reach the top eight.

The visitors have picked up 48 points from 33 matches played, and they could strengthen their position in the European battle with a win against Southampton, moving them into eighth place ahead of AFC Bournemouth.

Where to watch

Form Guide

Southampton:

Southampton are on a winless run of 10 matches in all competitions, with their previous win taking place against Ipswich Town (1-2) at the beginning of February. In their last game, Lesley Ugochukwu rescued a point for the Saints with a 93rd-minute equaliser against West Ham United.

The Saints have an abysmal home record, with their last home victory in all competitions being a 3-0 home win against Championship opposition Swansea City. Their only home win in the Premier League was against Everton (1-0) last November. Southampton have suffered four defeats in their previous five games, with losses against Aston Villa (0-3), Wolves (1-2), Brighton & Hove Albion (0-4) and AFC Bournemouth (1-3).

Fulham:

Fulham’s defeat against Chelsea (1-2), now puts Fulham at four defeats from their last five matches in all competitions. Fulham’s last league victory was the impressive 3-2 victory against Liverpool, where Rodrigo Muniz was the star of the show. Fulham have suffered further defeats against AFC Bournemouth (1-0) & Arsenal (2-1).

Away from home, Fulham have suffered three consecutive defeats on the road. Prior to this, Fulham had won their previous five matches away from home in all competitions.
