Sunderland are looking to maintain their strong start to the Premier League season as they take on Wolverhampton Wanderers this weekend.
- Date: 18/10/2025
- Kick-off: 3:00pm
- Location: Stadium of Light, Sunderland
Sunderland currently sit 9th in the Premier League with 11 points from seven games. The Black Cats have won two, drawn two and lost one of their last five games, with the wins coming against Brentford (2-1) and Nottingham Forest (1-0), the draws coming against Crystal Palace (0-0) and Aston Villa (0-0) and the defeat coming in their most recent game, away at Manchester United (2-0).
Sunderland have scored seven goals and conceded just six. Their defensive solidity is something they hope will be the foundation of their success this season, as a lack of steel in defence has been the undoing of many newly promoted teams in recent years.
Games involving Sunderland tend to be right affairs, with all of their last four games seeing under 2.5 goals scored.
Wolves are currently rooted to the foot of the Premier League table with two points from seven games. The Midlands club had a poor start to the campaign but come into this game off the back of a couple of strong performances, recording draws against both Tottenham and Brighton in their two most recent league fixtures, which followed a 2-0 win over Everton in the League Cup.
They are, then, in decent shape here, and like Sunderland, their recent outings have been low-scoring encounters, with four of their last five games in all competitions seeing under 2.5 goals scored. All three of their away games this season have seen very few goals scored, with the three matches ending 1-0, 1-0 and 1-1.
Based on that, we feel there is very little to separate these two teams at present and with neither side in particularly great goalscoring form, a low-scoring draw is the most likely result by our reckoning.
