AC Milan vs Inter Milan Prediction

Despite losing both Derby della Madonnina’s with AC Milan this season, Inter Milan head into this game as favourites due to their superior form, which results in Simone Inzaghi’s side sitting 16 points clear of their city rivals in Serie A.

Inter have lost just one game in Serie A this campaign, doing so to AC Milan back in late September, while the home side have only won nine of their 21 league matches. On top of this, the Nerazzurri have the best away record in Italy’s top-flight, winning eight and drawing two of their ten games, accumulating 26 points in the process while scoring 34 goals and conceding just five times.

Prediction: AC Milan 1-2 Inter Milan

AC Milan vs Inter Milan Prediction & Preview

Seventh-place AC Milan hosts Scudetto-chasing Inter Milan in the Derby della Madonnina on Sunday night.

Date: 02/02/2025

Location: San Siro

Time: 5pm

AC Milan have had a turbulent 2024/25 season, having seen them be under the management of Paulo Fonseca until the ex-Roma manager was sacked on 29th December, following 12 wins, six draws and six defeat in 24 matches.

Since then, the Rossoneri have turned to former Porto manager Sergio Conceicao, a change that has seen a marked improvement, following five wins and one draw in his first eight matches.

Notably, under Conceicao, AC Milan managed to beat Inter Milan 3-2 in the Italian Super Cup final on 6th January via remarkable circumstances, coming from 2-0 down after goals by Inter’s Lautaro Martinez and Mehdi Taremi, before turning the game on its head as Theo Hernandez, Christian Pulisic and Tammy Abraham all got on the scoresheet.

Ex-Inter Milan winger Conceicao will be aware that his side have a lot to play for this season, as Lazio are just five points in front in the final Champions League place, while his side are in the quarter-finals where they’ll play AS Roma. On Wednesday night, AC Milan also progressed to the Champions League’s Round of 32, finishing on 15 points from eight matches, however, they could rue their 2-1 defeat to Dinamo Zagreb, as it actually ended up costing them a direct route to the Round of 16.

On the other hand, things have been more plain sailing for Inter Milan this campaign, as they finished fourth in the Champions League Group Stage with an impressive 19 points from eight matches, with only Arsenal, Barcelona and Liverpool above them in the standings.

In the Coppa Italia, Inzaghi’s men will face Lazio in the quarter-finals following their 2-0 home win over Udinese in December. Meanwhile, in Serie A, Inter are just three points behind league leaders Napoli with a game in hand, having amassed 50 points from 21 matches, winning 15, drawing five and losing just once.

As previously mentioned, Inter’s sole league loss came to AC Milan back on 22nd September, as Matteo Gabbia scored a dramatic 89th-minute winner for the visitors after a first half Federico Dimarco strike had cancelled out Christian Pulisic’s 10th-minute opener.

Form Guide

AC Milan

As previously mentioned, AC Milan missed out on the chance to book themselves a place in the Champions League’s Round of 16 when they suffered a 2-1 loss at Dinamo Zagreb in midweek, as Martin Baturina and Marko Pjaca scored on either side of Pulisic’s 53rd-minute leveller, while Yunus Musah was sent off in the 39th-minute of the game.

Prior to that match, Conceicao’s men had beaten Parma (3-2) and Girona (2-0) after a disappointing 2-0 loss at Juventus and a narrow 2-1 victory at Como where Hernandez and Rafael Leao both scored in the final 20 minutes of the game to seal a crucial win for the Rossoneri.

Inter Milan

Inter have won all of their last four matches since being held to a 2-2 home draw by Bologna on 15th January, having defeated Empoli 3-1 and Lecce 4-0 in Serie A, while earning Champions League victories over Sparta Praha (1-0) and AS Monaco (3-0).

Notably, Argentina international Lautaro Martinez has been in sensational form, as the ex-Racing Club forward has fired in seven goals across Inter’s last five matches.
