Uruguay vs Argentina Prediction

Uruguay versus Argentina will be a closely-fought encounter, with this being a battle of second against first in South America’s World Cup qualifying.

Neither side are in terrific form, as Uruguay have won just one of their last five matches, while Argentina have won just two of their last five, with both victories coming at home against the likes of Peru and Bolivia.

Both of these sides have good defensive records, as Uruguay average just 0.75 goals against per game while Argentina’s record is even better, as they’ve conceded just seven times in 12 games (0.58). We can see a cagey and low-scoring encounter.

Prediction: Uruguay 1-1 Argentina

Uruguay vs Argentina Prediction & Preview

Uruguay hosts Argentina in what is a top of the table clash in South America’s World Cup qualifying.

Date: 21/03/2025

Location: Estadio Centenario

Time: 11:30pm

The last meeting between these two sides was in November 2023 resulted in 2-0 win for Uruguay at La Bombonera, as Ronald Araujo and Darwin Núñez both got on the scoresheet for Marcelo Bielsa’s side.

Uruguay will be determined to qualify for the World Cup and to make a mark in the competition, having failed to make it out of the group stages at Qatar 2022, as they finished behind the likes of South Korea and Portugal in the Group Stages.

Bielsa’s side have made a solid start to qualifying, as they are second with 20 points from 12 matches, having won five, drawn five and suffered two defeats.

In the Copa América, Uruguay started off the competition in good fashion, as they won Group C with nine points from three matches against Panama, USA and Bolivia. Uruguay even knocked Brazil out of the competition in the quarter-finals on penalties after a 0-0 draw, however, they suffered a 1-0 loss to eventual runners-up Colombia in the semi-finals.

On the other hand, Argentina are five points clear at the top of South America’s World Cup qualifying with 25 points from 12 matches, winning eight, drawing one and losing three times.

Argentina are arguably the best international side in the world at present, as they are the current holders of the World Cup, following their memorable win over France in the final of the 2022 edition in Qatar, while in Copa América, they managed to win the competition as a whole, having defeated Colombia 1-0 thanks to an extra time winner from Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez.
