Germany, meanwhile, look to add a record-extending ninth European crown to their illustrious history. After progressing from the group as runners-up, Christian Wuck’s side were pushed to the limit by France, ultimately prevailing in a dramatic penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw in a game they entered as underdogs. Germany’s resilience and tournament nous have once again come to the fore, even as they manage a squad in transition and cope with key injuries. Ann-Katrin Berger has been a standout in goal, while Klara Buhl and Sjoeke Nusken have provided the attacking quality.
Germany showed a remarkable ability to grind out a result in their quarter-final against France and will be hoping to lean into that grit again here, but once again, they're going to be hamstrung by key absences. Germany's disciplinary record at this tournament has frankly been poor, and while they're set to welcome back Carlotta Wamser from suspension, both Kathrin Hendrich and Sjoeke Nusken will miss this game as a result of various infringements. In Spain, Germany are up against the tournament favourites and consensus best side in Europe, so this might finally be a step too far for the DFB-Frauenteam.
