Countries above Scotland in the FIFA World Rankings

Scotland are way down in 40th position, but who's above them?

The latest batch of FIFA World Rankings were released today and there's been a few surprises. World Champions France have surrendered their place at the summit of the standings to fellow Europeans Belgium - who they coincidentally beat in the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup (1-0). The biggest movers in this set of rankings was the biggest shock of them all, with European minnows Gibraltar being rewarded for their fine form.

During the last international break they won back-to-back games for the first time in their history, overcoming both Armenia (1-0) and Liechtenstein (2-1) to give their supporters plenty to shout about - resulting in them moving up 8 places! But one thing that was slightly less surprising was the positioning of Scotland. They haven't qualified for a major tournament since the 1998 World Cup and they're in wretched form at the moment - losing 7 of their last internationals in all competitions.

Their awful record over the last few years has seen them plummet down the rankings and they now stand in 40th position, making them the LOWEST placed side of all the home nations. It's a worrying time for fans of Scottish football and they need to improve massively if they're to qualify for a major tournament anytime soon - which looks incredible unlikely.

With the rankings now out and available we've put together a quiz to test your knowledge. We want to see if you can name EVERY nation to feature above Alex McLeish's Scotland and we've given you 9 minutes to do so. There's 39 answers for you to guess and we've already given some away here - so we're expecting some big scores!
