The wait is almost over for England fans, with the World cup now within touching distance. Gareth Southgate's squad has been selected and now the clock is counting down towards England's opening game against Tunisia on 18th June. There's usually tonnes of excitement surrounding the Three Lions' campaign but this year appears to be quite different, with the confidence level the lowest it's been for some time. Only six members from England's squad at the previous World Cup remain, with it full of youth and inexperience.
The players claim that the aim is to go all the way and win it, but in reality anything further than the quarter-finals would be classed as a huge success for the fans. The England supporters have been starved of success since the famous World Cup win back in 1966. Semi-final appearances at the 1990 World Cup (Italy) and Euro 1996 (England) are about as good as its got, so it really would be a turn up for the books if this young Three Lions squad could at least match that.
