England Major Tournament Starting XI's

Can you name every player to start England’s opening game at the last six major tournaments?

We’ve been waiting patiently for almost four years now and the wait is almost over. The 2018 FIFA World Cup kicks off in just under four weeks and the hype is really starting to build for footballs biggest event in Russia. 32 nations will be battling it out for the honour of being crowned the worlds best and it promises to be some occasion. Germany, Brazil, Spain and France are expected to dominate proceedings but obviously as England fans we’re hoping that’s not the case.

Gareth Southgate has some job on his hands satisfying the nation, especially with many disgruntled following his squad announcement last Wednesday. The 47 year-old made big calls to leave out the likes of Jack Wilshere, Ryan Bertrand and Jonjo Shelvey which has picked up a pretty negative reception on social media. But it’s important to get behind the boys and despite us being naturally pessimistic, once the tournament gets closer the excitement will take over and we’ll be up for it!

It’s something of an inexperienced squad that’s going to be on the plane to Russia which brings up plenty of questions – mainly who’s going to start? Southgate claims he already he knows who play against Tunisia on 18th June pending injuries, so it’ll be interesting to see who pulls on the Three Lions kit. So we’ve put together a quiz that’ll really test your knowledge on England’s previous campaigns. We want to see if you can name every player to start on match day one for the Three Lions at their previous six major tournaments – dating back to Euro 2004. We’ve given you ten minutes to do so and it really isn’t easy, so anything over 80% is a very solid score!
