The weekend is almost upon us and what a week its been. We've seen the lead at the summit of the Premier League change hands again, Lionel Messi make history and Tottenham Hotspur play their first game at their fantastic new stadium. It's been an entertaining week and there's more to come with the UEFA Champions League returning on Tuesday, with all four English teams still remaining and hoping to bring the trophy back home.
As for the Premier League, the title race has taken a couple more turns with Liverpool and Manchester City switching positions yet again. The Reds moved into pole position after recording a last gasp and slightly fortunate victory over Tottenham at Anfield on Sunday, with Toby Alderweireld's calamitous own goal ensuring that Jurgen Klopp's men rolled out 2-1 victors.
But that only lasted until Wednesday night, when Manchester City recorded a routine win over relegation threatened Cardiff City at the Etihad Stadium. Two expertly strikes from Kevin De Bruyne and Leroy Sane did the damage to put the Citizens one point clear at the top of the table. The reigning Champions are now a point clear with 18 left to play for so its firmly in their hands.
Elsewhere, Tottenham Hotspur prepped for their big Champions League date with City on Tuesday with a win over Crystal Palace. It was their first game in their magnificent new home, named the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium - a lot of thought went into that one. It will host Pep Guardiola's men next week and it looks absolutely fantastic.
