Norwich vs Brighton Prediction

On paper, both of these sides have no losses in four, though Brighton are winless in their previous eight. Expect goals in this one, however, as both teams have scored in five of the last six involving Norwich City and nine of the last ten involving Brighton & Hove Albion.

Brighton's record against Norwich City and Premier League standing should see them over the line in this one, as the Seagulls are unbeaten in the last five meetings against the Canaries, without conceding in the previous four between the two teams - Norwich 1-2 Brighton

Norwich vs Brighton: Preview & Prediction

Norwich host Brighton in the third round of the FA Cup, with the visitors looking to avoid an upset against their lower league opposition.

Date: 11/01/25

Kick-off time: 15:00

Venue: Carrow Road

The hosts Norwich will take a pause in their quest for the Championship playoff places, as they look to continue what they hope will be a decent cup run. Recent games have seen good form for the Canaries as they are unbeaten in their last four in the league, including three victories. In the last 11 seasons, Norwich have been knocked out of the third round seven times, though went one better last season when they were eliminated by Liverpool in the fourth.

Brighton have had a bit more recent success, making it past the first hurdle in each of the last four seasons. They were knocked out by Wolves in the fifth round last season, after making the semi-finals the year before. This game should provide a welcome distraction for the Seagulls who are currently amidst an eight-game winless streak in the Premier League.

There should be goals in this game, with both sides regularly involved in high-scoring affairs. In their last six home games, Norwich have scored 16 goals, including consecutive 6-1 and 4-2 victories. Borja Sainz has been the main man for the hosts, as his 15 goals is by far the most on the team. The next closest is Ante Crnac, Marcelino Nunez and Josh Sargent who have scored four apiece. They should have confidence in breaching a defence who have kept just one clean sheet in their last 13 games in all competitions.

Fabian Hurzeler’s team have spread their goals out in a much more balanced manner, with Danny Welbeck leading the way with six goals. Joao Pedro is closely behind with four, which has contributed to their 29 total league goals. Norwich also have a concerning defensive record, with just two clean sheets in their last 17. There should be opportunities for both sides to get on the scoresheet in this one.

These two sides have met eight times since 2014, including matchups in both the Championship and Premier League. There has not been much to split the pair in recent years, with Brighton edging the head-to-head with three wins to Norwich’s two and three draws. The last time they met in the FA Cup was in 2003, when Norwich won 3-1 at home in the third round. This will be the first meeting since 2022, the second consecutive goalless draw.

Where to Watch

Norwich vs Brighton will not be available to watch on TV in the UK.

Form Guide

Norwich:

In their last five games, Norwich have won three, drawn one and lost one. It has been a great stretch for the Canaries as they try and close the gap on the Championship playoff places. This run started with their only defeat, as they lost 2-1 away at promotion chasing Sunderland. Anis Ben Slimane gave the visitors a half-time lead, before Daniel Ballard levelled the score shortly into the second half. Jose Cordoba saw red with 20 minutes to go, moments before Jobe Bellingham scored what would be the winning goal.

They were on the right side of the same scoreline in the next game as they beat Millwall at home. Emiliano Marcondes and Oscar Schwartau gave the hosts a 2-0 half-time lead, before Romain Esse halved the deficit. The points were shared in a home game against QPR as they drew 1-1. An 89th minute Marcelino Nunez equaliser cancelled out an earlier Ante Crnac own goal on the stroke of half-time to salvage a point for Norwich.

A trip to Luton followed, and it ended in victory for Norwich. Nunez continued his good form as he got on the scoresheet once more with the winning goal 17 minutes from the end. Last time out, they hosted Coventry. They were 2-1 winners, despite falling behind in the first half. A dramatic finish saw Amankwah Forson score twice in stoppage time to steal all three points.

Brighton:

In their last five games, Brighton have drawn four and lost one. It has been a difficult stretch for Brighton as they have struggled for wins. This run started with a home game against rivals Crystal Palace which saw them defeated 3-1. Palace took a 3-0 lead despite Brighton’s dominance, before a late consolation.

Next, they faced West Ham on the road. They drew 1-1 as Mohammed Kudus cancelled out Mats Wieffer’s opener. Brentford were next to visit the Amex, but Brighton were held to a goalless draw, despite creating several chances.

A trip to Aston Villa followed. Brighton were held to another 2-2 draw in which they took the lead through Simon Adingra. Villa turned it around but Tariq Lamptey salvaged a point with less than 10 minutes to go. Last time out, they hosted Arsenal. They held their visitors to a 1-1 draw after a controversial penalty from Joao Pedro cancelled out Ethan Nwaneri’s opener.
