Two sides looking to climb up the table in the EFL Championship meet this weekend as Coventry City take on Sheffield Wednesday.
Coventry City currently sit 15th in the EFL Championship with seven wins, nine draws and seven losses from twenty-three games this season.
The Sky Blues, for the most part, have been a shadow of the side that reaached the playoff final last season but given the players they lost in the summer that’s pretty understandable.
There was a fairly significant change in personnel on the whole in the summer and while they started the season fairly slowly things look as though they might finally be starting to come together for Mark Robins’ side.
They enter this game in good form, unbeaten in their last four games having lost only one of their last eight outings.
Their most recent game saw them emphatically claim all three points at Sunderland, with goals from T. Sakamoto, Callum O’Hare and Kasey Palmer wrapping up a fine performance in a 3-0 win in the North East.
The trajectory of Coventry’s form is very promising indeed and given how tight things are in the Championship table all they have to do is put a run together and the playoffs become very much on the cards again.
They’ve taken seven points from their last three home games and based on how they’re playing right now it feels hard to back against them in this one.
Sheffield Wednesday currently sit 23rd in the EFL Championship with four wins, four draws and fifteen losses from twenty-three games this season.
The Owls have fought hard to start to save what has been a disaster of a season for the most part and while they looked all but gone at one point they’re coming into this game looking like survival is now a very realistic goal.
Their form on the whole has been decent of late as they come into this game having won three and lost two of their last five games.
Their latest outing saw them fall to a disappointing 1-2 loss at home to Cardiff City, a loss that was made more painful by the fact they were leading the game up until the 74th minute when Karl Ahearne-Grant equalised for the Welsh side before an A. Famewo own goal gave the visitors all three points.
A bitter pill to swallow, indeed, but the Owls must remember how much they’ve improved under manager Danny Röhl and if they keep doing exactly as they have been in recent weeks then they should accumulate enough points to avoid the drop.
This is a hugely tough game for them but a point is by no means out of the question.
For our Coventry vs. Sheffield Wednesday prediction, we’re going for a 2-1 win for the home side.
