The Millers take the short trip to Huddersfield this weekend, where they will attempt to win a game at the John Smith’s Stadium for the first time since 2015. Last season, both sides won at home in two feisty encounters.
Huddersfield
After spending the majority of last season near the drop, the Terriers are back in familiar territory at the moment in 21st place after a poor start to the season. Huddersfield have picked up four points from five games, scoring an average of 0.8 per game and conceding an average of 2. Neil Warnock will be slightly concerned by his sides home performances so far, as not only do they have the worst home record in the league, but they are yet to score also, albeit they have faced two of the best sides in the league, Norwich, and Leicester.
Last time out, they picked up their first three points of the season, thanks to a 2-1 away victory versus West Brom. Delano Burgzorg opened the scoring in the first half and the Terriers went into the break with a 1-0 lead. The baggies bounced back after halftime but a 96th minute Jack Rudoni goal gave Neil Warnock’s side the win.
Rotherham
The Millers are one place above this weekend’s opposition, in 20th place. Just like Huddersfield, they have also struggled defensively, conceding 11 goals in 5 games and are yet to win a game on the road in two attempts. A positive that the Rotherham faithful must appreciate is the fact that they have scored in every game this season but so have the opposition.
In their most recent match, Rotherham hosted high-flying Norwich and served them their first defeat of the season, which may just be the turning point for the Millers. Dexter Lembikisa and Jordan Hugill gave the hosts a 2-0 lead before halftime, but Norwich pulled one back five minutes after the break. Waves of Norwich attacks occurred after the goal, but Rotherham showed resilience and determination to see the game out, a much needed confidence boost for the backline.
Verdict?
Both teams won their most recent game and will be looking to continue that momentum this weekend. The game should be scrappy with the midfield battle under the spotlight. The visitors can score and I believe they will on Saturday.
The final prediction is Huddersfield 2-1 Rotherham.
