Hull City and Watford will clash at the MKM Stadium this weekend with the Tigers losing once again in midweek to keep them in 16th just as Watford aim to stay in the top half of the table after a terrible run of results recently.
Hull were beaten 3-1 by Middlesbrough in midweek after Allahyar Sayyadmanesh's excellent header was cancelled out by three late goals from Boro. They remain deep in the bottom half of the table now and with 16 defeats on the board too. At the same time, they have let in the most goals inside the top 16 after another three-goal beating, but Hull still sit 10 points above the relegation zone with just nine left on the board, so they are now mathematically safe.
The Tigers' last win came in a 1-0 victory over Millwall two weeks ago, with the club going on to draw with Blackburn Rovers five days later.
The club can still get into the top half of the table this season with just a gap of six points on Watford in 12th. They will, however, need to secure at least two wins to do so and they will also have to now get into the top half by hoping that the likes of Watford, Swansea City, Bristol City and Birmingham City all lose at least two of their last three games.
On the other hand, with 60 goals let in and just 49 scored, it does mean that the Tigers may have to tru and overturn their terrible goals difference inferiority at the same time.
As for Watford, if they can beat Hull here, they should find themselves having one foot in the top half of the table, but they are still hoping on a march towards the playoffs at the end of the season. Currently, the Hornets sit behind Blackburn Rovers in sixth by five points with nine left to play for, but Rovers do also have a game in hand.
There is a possibility that Watford do make it into the top six, but after losses to Cardiff City, Huddersfield Town and Luton Town in April already, this seems an unlikely feat.
