Middlesbrough vs Coventry City Prediction, Tips & Stats

Middlesbrough and Coventry City will meet in the second leg of their playoff semi-finals affair with the two sides bidding for a spot at Wembley at Riverside on Wednesday following on from the 0-0 draw in the first leg.

It will also be the third time these two have met within 10 days of one another after also playing on the final day of the Championship season. That game ended 1-1 after Gustavo Hamer scored in the first half fot Coventry before Cameron Archer netted an equaliser just before the end of the first 45.

Boro stunningly saw 74% of the ball that day at the Riverside Stadium, as they had three shots on target from eight efforts compared to the two on target from nine efforts for Coventry.

Six days later in the first leg, Coventry failed to have a single shot on target from 11 attempts and Boro saw two of their five hit the target. Michael Carrick's men also saw 62% of the ball and with just one yellow card throughout the game, it turned out to be a fairly dull and lacklustre affair.

The draws for Carrick's side against Coventry have now moved them on to a four-game winless run after also losing to Luton Town and Rotherham United. The Sky Blues, on the other hand, defeated Reading and beat Birmingham City in this time and have not tasted defeat since that stunning 4-0 home loss to Stoke City at the very start of April.

Gustavo Hamer to commit 3+ fouls in 90 minutes is priced at 7/4 in this one after he committed three fouls in the reverse fixture. Riley McGree 2+ shots on target in 90 minutes is also priced at 11/4 after he hit the target twice the last time Middlesbrough hosted Coventry. 2+ shots on target each team in each half in 90 minutes is also at 13/2 and Cameron Archer to score first and either Middlesbrough 2-0 or Middlesbrough 2-1 in 90 minutes is the Scorecast Boost at 12/1.

            Coventry City team news

Viktor Gyokeres will lead the line once more for Coventry and likely play alongside Godden. Eccles is the only injury concern after coming off in the 0-0 draw last time out and Jamie Allen may now start. Wilson should remain in goal with Simon Moore on the bench, but we could also see Jon Panzo come into the side for the Sky Blues. Kelly, Hamer, Bidwell and Norton-Cuffy all likely stay in the side here.

            Middlesbrough team news

Cameron Archer came off in the draw with Coventry last time out but he is fit to start. We could, however, see Matt Crooks get a start after coming off the bench in the last one. Marcus Forss also got game time that day off the bench, and we shouild see Dael Fry and Daniel Barlaser get minutes after missing the entire game against Coventry.
