The unbeaten league leaders are back in action this midweek with Preston North End welcoming Birmingham City to Deepdale with both sides set to play out arguably their biggest game of the season so far in what has been a sensational start.
Birmingham have started this Championship campaign as well as they have done in any of the past seven seasons. They currently sit up in sixth and have got fans on board for a potential fight towards the playoffs. This has seen them lose just one game and with only five goals conceded from the six outings so far, the Blues have the joint second-best defensive record with only, ironically, Preston having a better defensive output.
Birmingham's only defeat in the Championship has come against Watford in their match over the weekend. The game ultimately turned against the midlands side when Lee Buchanan was sent off, as Watford then went on to score just three minutes later before making it two in the 96th minute.
Other results this season have seen Birmingham lost in the second round of the EFL Cup to Cardiff City where Lukas Jutkiewicz was sent off, but he is able to play here. The Blues have also gone on to defeat Plymouth Argyle and Bristol City after an impressive 1-0 victory over Leeds United. Jutkiewicz scored in the win over Bristol, while Soctt Hogan and Jay Stansfield also managed to bag against Plymouth. Jutkiewicz also got the winner against Leeds.
As for Preston, for the first time this decade, they are top of the Championship table after six games and remain the only side in the second tier yet to lose a game so far.
It is now also five wins in a row for the Lilywhites since their upset defeat at the hands of Salford City in the EFL Cup first round. This has seen Preston go on to beat Sunderland with a finish each from Will Keane and Mads Frokjaer-Jensen.
Preston have also defeated Sheffield Wednesday away from home, while also beating Swansea City and Stoke City before a win over Plymouth Argyle last weekend.
It is going to be a close game, as, despite the 10 goals and best defensive record in the league, Preston have still played out low-scoring wins.
