Southampton vs Norwich Prediction, Tips & Stats

Southampton and Norwich City will aim to stamp their marker down on the early discussions for a promotional bid this weekend with a meeting at St. Mary's on Saturday afternoon following on from winning starts last time out.

The Saints' drop down back into the Championship was met with a winner away to the newly-promoted Sheffield Wednesday, as Che Adams scored the winner towards the end of the game after an early goal from Adam Armstrong.

Armstrong was rested in midweek against Gillingham, as Southampton fell to a 3-1 loss away to the League Two side, despite the likes of Adams starting. Carlos Alcaraz scored late on for Southampton that day.

As for Norwich, they would go 1-0 down early on at home to Hull City on gameday one, as Jon Rowe scored deep into injury time in the first half. Incredibly, even deeper into stoppage time in the second 45, Adam Idah scored in the 96th minute to steal all three points for the Canaries.

This is also the first season in a long time without Teemu Pukki for Norwich, and his absence was felt slightly last weekend with just five of the 28 shots hitting the target.

          Norwich team news

Adama Idah stole the headlines last time out for Norwich with his winner in the 96th minute against Hull and he may now start. Angus Gunn likely stays in goal ahead of Tim Krul, while Ben Gibson, Giannoulis, Shane Duffy and Stacey all remain in defence. Jon Rowe scored in the last outing too and should stay here alongside Omar Hernandez and Sara, while Ashley Barnes and Josh Sargent stay up top. Andrew Omobamidele and Marcelino Nunez are expected to get more minutes too.

          Southampton team news

Since a victory on opening weekend, Southampton's squad has taken a huge hit with the departure of Romeo Lavia to Chelsea. Although not yet confirmed, he is unlikely to be involved here as a result, and the same applies to club captain, James Ward-Prowse, who is off to West Ham United and this will be the first gameweek in a long time where he is not involved.

Southampton were also in action during the week when they lost 3-1 to Gillingham in the EFL Cup, and the likes of Stuart Armstrong, Che Adams, and Moussa Djenepo all played that day - they should keep their starting roles. Carlos Alcaraz came off the bench to score late on for the Saints and likely gets more minutes here.
