Swansea vs Blackburn Prediction, Tips & Stats

Swansea City will be aiming to distance themselves from the ensuing relegation battle in the Sky Bet Championship as they are set to host Blackburn Rovers at The Swansea.com Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The hosts currently find themselves in 17th position in the league table after gaining 39 points from their 34 league games so far this season. In what is a very congested bottom half of the Championship table, Swansea are just four points above the drop zone.

Luke William’s side come into this game on the back of a mixed run of form which has seen them record two losses and three defeats in their last five league outings.

In their last league outing, the Swans came out on top of a tight encounter against Sunderland. The visitors dominated the first half, with Brazilian winger Ronald grabbing a brace. His first came from following up a rebound, while the second was a clinical volley on the counter.

Sunderland showed improved fight in the second half, with Luke O'Nien pulling one back through a header. Despite a late scare from goalkeeper Anthony Patterson, Swansea held on to claim three vital points.

The visitors currently find themselves in 16th position in the Championship table after they have gained 39 points from their 34 league games so far this campaign. Blackburn have won 11, drawn 6 and lost 17.

In their last league outing, Blackburn recorded a 1-1 draw against Norwich. Marcelino Nunez put Norwich ahead in the first half with a stunning free-kick. Blackburn battled back, with chances for Sam Gallagher blocked by a resolute Angus Gunn. Dominic Hyam finally broke Norwich's resistance in the second half with a powerful header. Both sides pushed for the winner, but the points were ultimately shared.

The fixture of Swansea vs Blackburn has a long and storied history, with the two sides having first met in the Fa Cup in 1915. In total, the two sides have met on 50 occasions, with Blackburn having the better record, winning 25 compared with Swansea’s 17.

Swansea City snatched a narrow 1-0 victory away at Blackburn Rovers when these sides met each other earlier on in the campaign. Despite creating several chances, Blackburn couldn't find the back of the net, with Harry Leonard missing two golden opportunities. Swansea capitalised on their limited chances, with the winner coming in the first half.

These sides are closely matched at the bookies ahead of this weekend’s game, however it is Swansea who are narrowly favoured and are currently priced @ 6/5, whilst an away win for Blackburn is priced @ 21/10 and a draw is @ 5/2.

We are backing Sammie Szmodicks to score first in the game because he is in an incredible run of form heading into this game. Szmodicks is the top scorer in the Championship this season and will be high in confidence after scoring against Newcastle in the Fa Cup.

          Swansea Team news

Midfielder Jay Fulton and forward Oliver Cooper are pushing for recalls after impressive performances from the bench, while winger Ryan Hedges remains a doubt with a groin injury. Head Coach Russell Martin is likely to stick with the starting lineup that secured a vital win over Sunderland. This means fans can expect Joel Piroe leading the attack, supported by Ollie Cooper and Harry Darling in the heart of midfield and defence, respectively.

          Blackburn Team News

Striker Sam Gallagher is facing a potential absence. Defender Harry Pickering, who has been operating as a wing-back, could be rested, opening the door for alternative options in the position.
