Swansea vs Southampton Prediction, Tips & Stats

Southampton travel to Wales this weekend, where they will face a Swansea side who will look to extend their unbeaten run. When the two sides met earlier this season, Russell Martin defeated his former club 5-0.

Swansea

New boss, Luke Williams, has had a relatively solid start to life as Swansea manager, leading his side through the FA Cup and picking up a point away to Birmingham last time out. Although it could have been much better if the hosts didn’t score with minutes to go.

However, on the whole, the Swans have struggled since Martin left, and that’s reflected in their position in 15th after 27 matches. They’ve not excelled at either end of the field this campaign, scoring just 1.37 per game and conceding 1.52 goals on average.

Southampton

The Saints have been excellent this season, and if they continue with their current form, then a return to the Premier League is on the cards. Southampton are currently on a 20-game unbeaten streak, which has seen them almost catch up to Ipswich in second place. Martin’s side has accumulated 55 points from 27 matches while scoring 50 goals and conceding just 31.

Last time out, they swept aside an in-form Sheffield Wednesday at home with a resounding 4-0 win. Adam Armstrong netted his 14th of the season as a strong second-half performance secured the win.

Verdict?

All fingers point towards a Southampton win this weekend, but Swansea won’t make it easy for their opponent.

The visitors will dominate the ball, but the hosts will look to take their chances on the break. That said, the Saints unbeaten run should continue.

The final prediction is Swansea 1-2 Southampton.

Swansea Team News

Sam Parker was forced off last time out, and he was replaced by Joe Allen. Matt Grimes, Nathan Wood, and Liam Cullen should all start.

Southampton Team News

The Saints avoided any injuries last time out, so the same side set out in a 4-3-3 variant should start.
