Manchester City and Brighton & Hove Albion turn their attention to EFL Cup action on Wednesday with both sides looking to bounce back following league defeats at the weekend.
The current holders of the EFL Cup have been awarded another home tie after comfortably beating Norwich City in the previous round in a 5-0 win. Enzo Maresca is expected to rotate for this fixture given the schedule for his Manchester City players, and one of the players who is likely to benefit from this is Phil Foden. The Stockport-born midfielder was a second-half substitute against Aston Villa, failing to make an impact, but Foden has scored four goals in his last two home appearances in all competitions.
Manchester City's home record has been excellent as the defeat to PSG was the only blemish on a record which stands at six wins from seven home outings this season.
Brighton & Hove Albion were beaten by Liverpool at Anfield the weekend just gone, to end the Seagulls' unbeaten run heading into that fixture. The visitors for this fixture had won five of their seven league games and they still remain in the top 4 after 8 league games played. The Seagulls secured a comeback victory against Manchester United in the previous round of the competition, after being two goals down inside the opening ten minutes at Old Trafford.
Brighton's record against Manchester City has been solid with no defeats in their last four meetings against the Citizens. Over 2.5 goals have been scored in five of the last six meetings between the two sides, so goals should come in this fixture with expected rotation.
This could go all the way to penalties with City just edging out their opponents.
Manchester City 2-2 Brighton (Manchester City to win on penalties)
