Newly promoted York City have been provided with an early taste of the standards of their League Two opposition on Monday night as they entertain Crawley Town in the Preliminary Round of the League Cup.
The Minstermen scored over 100 goals as they claimed the National League title last season, pipping Rochdale to the post by two points, in which they secured 33 wins from 46 matches and conceded an average of just 0.89 goals per game.
Crawley, on the other hand, only just escaped relegation from League Two by the skin of their teeth, finishing one point above second-from-bottom Harrogate Town. The Red Devils struggled in front of goal, averaging just 0.95 goals per game, whilst conceding an average of 1.47 goals per game.
York ended last season with an average of 2.47 goals scored per game in the National League, and while they face a big step up in terms of the overall quality of their opposition this season, we're backing the hosts to score twice without reply against a Crawley team that struggled in front of goal as well as in defence last time out.
York managed to keep hold of their top goalscorer Ollie Pearce, who netted 34 times in 46 appearances last season, and we're backing the 30-year-old to find the back of the net against Crawley Town on Monday night.
