Aston Villa are looking to continue their revival as they take on Feyenoord in the Europa League this week.
- Date: 02/10/2025
- Kick-off: 8:00pm
- Location: Stadion Feijenoord, Rotterdam
Aston Villa have mostly had a poor start to the season, but they now come into this game off the back of successive wins and are showing signs of life. Villa were winless up until last week, when they beat Bologna 1-0 in their Europa League opener. Then, at the weekend, Unai Emery's men took on Fulham, running out 3-1 winners after a strong second-half showing.
Domestically, Feyenoord have made a good start to the season, winning six and drawing one of seven games. In Europe, though, they fell to a 1-0 loss away at Braga last week, which combined with the second leg of their Champions League qualifier (where the Dutch side were beaten 5-2 by Fenerbahce), means they've lost both of their last two games in European competitions.
Villa will have been pleased to see Ollie Watkins get on the scoresheet against Fulham as his poor start to the season in front of goal was finally brought to an end. Watkins has scored 35 goals across the last two Premier League seasons combined, and his contributions are going to be essential if Villa are to make a fist of this season. Sunday's goal should have restored some confidence in the England man, so he'll come into this game with the wind in his sails.
Villa enter this game at the strongest point in their season, so they'll back themselves to get a result. Feyenoord have plenty of quality by domestic standards, and they're seasoned European campaigners too, so they won't roll over easily. Their strong home record (four wins from four this season) should be enough to see them avoid defeat, but they might just be facing a resurgent Villa side at the wrong time. With under 2.5 goals having been scored in four of both teams' last five games, don't expect too many goals, but we think this one will end all square.
