Liverpool vs Tottenham Prediction

Liverpool will fancy their chances against Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield when taking into account that the Lilywhites haven’t won at Anfield since May 2011.

Despite losing the first leg of this League Cup semi-final 1-0, it must be remembered that Liverpool thrashed Spurs 6-3 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on 22nd December, showing that Arne Slot’s men have the capability to dismantle Ange Postecoglou’s side.

Prior to Tottenham’s recent victories over Brentford and Elfsborg, Spurs had shown fragility in defeats to Leicester City and Everton. In terms of Premier League away form, the Lilywhites have suffered seven losses in 12 games.

Prediction: Liverpool 3-1 Tottenham

Liverpool vs Tottenham Prediction & Preview

Liverpool host Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield in what is expected to be an intense second leg in the League Cup semi-final.

Date: 06/02/2025

Location: Anfield

Time: 8pm

Tottenham emerged victorious in the first leg of the semi-final as Swedish central midfielder Lucas Bergvall scored the only goal of the game with just four minutes to go, giving Spurs a slender, but, potentially vulnerable advantage going into the second leg at Anfield.

Arne Slot’s side are having a memorable campaign to date, as they are challenging well on all four front. Liverpool sit top of the Premier League, six points clear of second-place Arsenal with a game in hand, while qualifying for the Fourth Round of the FA Cup while also finishing top of the Champions League Group Stage. However, the Dutchman will be keen to win silverware at the first chance of asking, with the League Cup presenting itself as a good opportunity to do so.

The Anfield club have won the League Cup on ten separate occasions, including last season when they defeated Chelsea 1-0 in the final thanks to a 118th-miniute winner from Dutch centre-back Virgil van Dijk.

Liverpool’s route to the semi-finals has seen them play Premier League opposition throughout, as Arne Slot’s men have progressed past the likes of West Ham United (5-1), Brighton & Hove Albion (3-2) and Southampton (2-1).

Ange Postecoglou’s side know that domestic competitions are all that they have left to play for following a dismal Premier League campaign thus far. Tottenham currently sit 14th in the Premier League with just 27 points from 24 matches.

Cup competitions have provided a lot of respite for fans of the Lilywhites, having qualified for the Europa League’s Round of 16 via a fourth-place finish, while also reaching the Fourth Round of the FA Cup, where they’ll face Premier League opposition in the shape of Aston Villa on Sunday.

Ange Postecoglou notably said that he always wins trophies in his second season, he’ll be hoping to lead Tottenham to their first major trophy win since they won the League Cup back in the 2007/08 campaign.

So far, Tottenham have managed to progress past the likes of Coventry City (2-1), Manchester City (2-1) and Manchester United (4-3) on their way to the semi-finals of this season’s League Cup.

Where to Watch

Form Guide

Liverpool

Liverpool enter this game with four wins in their last five matches, with the only blot on their copybook being a 3-2 loss to PSV in the Champions League where Arne Slot fielded a rotated squad due to qualifying for the Round of 16 after their 2-1 home win over Lille on matchday seven.

As far as domestic form goes, the Reds have won all of their last three matches, having beaten Brentford (2-0) thanks to a late brace from Darwin Núñez, as well as Ipswich Town (4-1) and AFC Bournemouth (2-0).

Tottenham

Spurs have recently managed confidence-boosting victories over Brentford (2-0) and Elfsborg (3-0), seeing them move up to 14th in the Premier League standings, as well as fourth in the Europa League table.

Prior to those victories, Ange Postecoglou’s men suffered dismal defeats to Leicester City (2-1) and Everton (3-2) on either side of a vital 3-2 win at Hoffenheim in the Europa League where James Maddison and Son Heung-min (2) both got on the scoresheet.
