On Wednesday night, Brighton & Hove Albion hosts Aston Villa in what should be an entertaining match-up between seventh and ninth-places in the Premier League.
Date: 02/04/2025
Location: Amex Stadium
Time: 7:45pm
The last meeting between these two sides back on 30th December resulted in a 2-2 draw, as Simon Adingra and Tariq Lamptey fired in goals on either side of strikes by Ollie Watkins and Morgan Rogers.
Meanwhile, when the two sides last faced off at the Amex Stadium, Brighton ran out as 1-0 winners in May 2024 as Joao Pedro fired in an 87th-minute winner for the Seagulls.
This game is a huge on in terms of the race to qualify for European football next season, as Brighton are just two points behind fourth-place Chelsea as they have earned 47 points from 29 matches, scoring 48 and conceding 42 in the process, while Aston Villa are a further two points behind in ninth-place having scored 41 and conceded 45 times, showing just how tight the top half of the table is.
Brighton are having an excellent season under Hurzeler, however, their sole focus will be on the Premier League, as they suffered their second domestic cup defeat of the campaign last time out, as they were beaten 4-3 on penalties by Nottingham Forest after a 0-0 draw, seeing them miss out on a second FA Cup semi-final in just two years. Their other cup defeat came in the Fourth Round of the League Cup when they knocked out by Liverpool via a 3-2 scoreline.
Aston Villa are still fighting on two other fronts away from the Premier League in what is an intense season for the Villains, as they comfortably beat Preston North End 3-0 at Deepdale to advance to the semi-finals of the FA Cup. Emery’s side have found success in the Champions League too, as they finished 8th in the Group Stage with 16 points from eight matches, before beating Club Brugge 6-1 on aggregate in the Round of 16. They will face PSG in the quarter-finals of this season’s competition.
