On Thursday night, Chelsea hosts Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge in a meeting of fourth against 14th in the Premier League.
Date: 03/04/2025
Location: Stamford Bridge
Time: 8pm
As previously mentioned, Chelsea have by far the superior head-to-head record between these two sides, something which shone through during the last meeting back on 8th December, as Spurs raced into a 2-0 lead after just 11 minutes thanks to goals from Dominic Solanke and Dejan Kulusevski, however, strikes from Jadon Sancho, Cole Palmer (2) and Enzo Fernández saw Chelsea lead the game 4-2 before Son Heung-min added a 96th-minute consolation goal.
Chelsea are in by far the better league position of the two sides, as the Blues sit in the final guaranteed Champions League qualification place (4th) with 49 points from 29 matches, having scored 53 and conceded 37 times, but, they will be wary of the fact that 10th-place AFC Bournemouth are just five points behind them on 44 points, showing just how small the room for error is between now and the end of the season.
Tottenham will need a miraculous run of form to qualify for any kind of European football via the Premier League, as they are on 34 points from 29 matches, seeing them sit 13 points behind the likes of Brighton & Hove Albion in seventh place.
The Blues will be hoping to add some much-needed silverware to their illustrious trophy cabinet, as they are firm favourites to win the UEFA Europa Conference League and will face Legia Warsaw in the quarter-finals of that competition. They had previously knocked out FC Kobenhavn 3-1 on aggregate in the Round of 16 after winning all six matches in the Group Stage.
Postecoglou will know that his side’s season solely relies on winning the UEFA Europa League, as it is Tottenham’s only realistic chance of qualifying for the UEFA Champions League. The Lilywhites have been drawn up to play Eintracht Frankfurt in the quarter-finals of that competition, having progressed past AZ Alkmaar 3-2 on aggregate after finishing fourth in the Group Stage with 17 points from eight matches.
