Everton vs Tottenham Prediction

Neither side is in particularly great form coming into this one, so we are opting for a draw in this game. Everton are still struggling in front of goal, as the Toffees have only scored once in their last five Premier League games and are without a goal in their previous three home games, so expect this to continue despite playing a Spurs side who have shown defensive frailties as of late.

Everton's recent results have been low-scoring affairs, with the last seven registering less than 2.5 goals. The last four Premier League meetings at Goodison Park have all resulted in a draw – Everton 1-1 Tottenham

Everton vs Tottenham: Preview & Prediction

Everton host Tottenham in the Premier League, with both sides looking to bounce back from defeats in midweek.

Date: 19/01/25

Kick-off time: 14:00

Venue: Goodison Park

A first Goodison Park return for David Moyes ended in defeat as Everton lost 1-0 at home to Aston Villa, a result which leaves the club just one point above the relegation zone. It has been a difficult season for Everton, with their Premier League place under threat. They have now suffered three defeats in a row, and felt the need to move on from Sean Dyche with just three wins on the season. Anything but a victory this weekend could see them fall into a bottom three.

It has not been much better for Tottenham, who themselves remain in the bottom half after defeat in the North London derby. They sit in 13th place, just seven points above their upcoming opponents. European football appears a distant dream for now, but a win could give them momentum going forward. However, Ange Postecoglou’s side are now winless in their last five league games, including four defeats.

Lack of goals was a key reason in Dyche’s departure from Everton, with the Toffees the league’s second lowest scorers with 15. One of Moyes’ important tasks is to get striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin up and running, as the forward has netted just twice this year. Their overall struggles are highlighted by the fact Iliman Ndiaye is their top scorer with only three. Although, they come up against a Spurs defence who have been vulnerable all season, allowing 32 goals. The visitors have conceded 13 goals in their last five.

The hosts have been far stronger at the back, conceding 26 goals in total. They have also held high scorers Arsenal and Chelsea to goalless draws this season. They face another tricky test in Tottenham, who only trail league leaders Liverpool in goals scored. James Maddison leads the way with eight, with Dominic Solanke and Brennan Johnson also making significant contributions with seven apiece. However, the Everton defence have conceded just five goals in their last seven league games.

These two teams have met 10 times in the Premier League since 2020, and it is a stretch which has been dominated by Tottenham. Everton have won just once in this period, and it was the second game in 2020. Spurs have won five and drawn four, including victory in the most recent meeting, the reverse fixture earlier this season. They won 4-0 at home with goals from Yves Bissouma, Heung-min Son and Cristian Romero. The corresponding fixture last season ended honours even with a 2-2 draw at Goodison Park. Jarrad Branthwaite scored a 94th minute equaliser for the Toffees.

Team News

Everton

Dwight McNeil remains out, but is getting closer to a return from a knee injury. However, Seamus Coleman may return to the squad following a short absence. Armando Broja was substituted with an injury last week, but they are still awaiting news on the extent of his problem.

Tottenham

Tottenham centre-back pairing Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero are nearing a comeback, though this game likely comes too soon. Rodrigo Bentancur is still out, but he should not be out for long following a troubling fall in the Liverpool game. Timo Werner has a hamstring injury which could keep him out.

Form Guide

Everton:

In their last five games, Everton have won one, lost one and drawn three. It has been a disappointing stretch for the Toffees, though they have faced some tough opponents. This run started with a trip to struggling Man City. They drew a third consecutive game, holding their hosts to a 1-1 draw. Bernardo Silva had given City the lead, but Iliman Ndiaye levelled the score before the break. Erling Haaland had the chance to put his side in front in the second half, but his penalty kick was saved by Jordan Pickford.

A home game against Nottingham Forest followed, where they lost 2-0 with goals in either half from Chris Wood and Morgan Gibbs-White. They were then defeated for a second week in a row at Bournemouth. They lost 1-0, with a late David Brooks goal the only difference between the two sides.

FA Cup action saw their only win of this stretch as they beat lower league opposition in Peterborough at home. The final result was 2-0, thanks to goals from Beto and Ndiaye. Last time out they hosted Aston Villa at Goodison Park in David Moyes’ first game back in charge. It did not go to plan, however, as they were defeated 1-0. Ollie Watkins scored the winning goal.

Tottenham:

In their last five games, Tottenham have won two, lost two and drawn one. It has been a poor stretch for Spurs, which started with a 2-2 draw at home to Wolves. They turned around an early deficit with goals from Rodrigo Bentancur and Brennan Johnson, but Jorgen Strand Larsen levelled the score late on.

Another home game followed, but they were beaten 2-1 by Newcastle. Dominic Solanke had scored a very early opener, though this was quickly cancelled out by Anthony Gordon. Alexander Isak scored the winning goal before the break. Attention shifted to Carabao Cup action where they took a big step towards the final, beating Liverpool 1-0 in the semi-final first leg at home. Lucas Bergvall netted the winner in the 86th minute.

Tamworth were their next opponents, this time in the FA Cup third round. They won 3-0, through goals from Dejan Kulusevski and Johnson in addition to an own goal. However, this came in extra-time as the non-league side held Spurs to a goalless draw after 90 minutes. The North London derby saw another defeat in the league as Arsenal beat them 2-1. Heung-min Son gave Spurs the lead, but the Gunners turned it around before half-time.
